a few problems (electrical and oil)
Hi there,
I have just got round to plugging my radio into my S2 ERST and when i done this, my interior light now does not work, neither does my fuel computer or clock. The background light of them comes on however they do not work and the interior light just does not come on. My CD player does not work neither.
Any ideas on what this could be?
Also, what oil would you say i should use as i have a zvh engine, a 1.8 zetec bottom end so normal cvh oil would not suit this so i need something thats inbetween both the cvh and zvh and not too sure on what to use.
Again any ideas?
Anything put forward will be very useful.
Cheers

1st of all youve probaly tried the fuses???? it sounds like an earthing problem, pull the radio back out and make sure the earth cable is earth properly. earthing does some amazingly funny things on cars if corroded etc.
Checked all the fuses and they are all fine, my cig lighter dont work but i think thats a faulty unit?
can anyone tell me what colour the wires for the radio are because on the loom for my cd player it has things like illumination etc and i have no idea where to plug all this.
Im still struggling to find out why the clock and fuel guage have stopped working but the light behind them works its very weird i tried re-seating the round cable going into the clock but that didnt work.

hmm iv checked that fuse and it seems fine its only the digital display that does not work on either that or the fuel computer like i say they light up but with no numbers.

have you tried a new fuse just to be 100% sure ?
nope but i will do that, its so weird because they were both working then the next day both of them stopped working together.
I am also having a few problems wiring up my headunit.
This how i connected it up:
CAR - HEADUNIT
Red 12v - Yellow
Yellow IGN - Red
Brown GND - Black
Yel/grey ILL - Orange
Red/White ??? - ????
When i wired it up like this the unit did not worked so i switched the 12v and the ign round so it matched yellow and yellow, red and red and the headunit fired up, sounded like it was reading a cd then it turned off??
why would it do this?
Cheers

You've lost the permenant feed for the clock, stereo, fuel computer etc hence why they won't power up.
Check fuse 2, and change it anyway, fuses aren't always obvious to see when they have blown.
The wire colours:
Red = Permenant 12v
Yellow = Switched 12v
Brown = Earth
Grey/Yellow = Illumination
Red/White = Electric antenna feed (for your aerial box) Blue wire on ISO plug

sorted now, replaced all the fuses and got a multimeter on the wires which helped. cheers guys.
all i need to know now is about the oil Just wondering what oil would be best to use on a S2 ERST but with a 1.8 zetec bottom end? obviously i want something to keep both top end and bottom end happy but unsure of what type would be best.
cheers
