Default Kickdown on '97 V6 Mondeo

Wifey's '97 2.5 Ghia X auto's been playing up a bit lately. Seems that the kickdown isn't working too well. Unlike older auto's I've had, which work off a cable, does this one get it's info from the throttle potentiometer? If so, do you think replacing it might sort the problem?

I think I have been reading somewhere, that the kickdown is activated by torque inside the box... if you have a electronic automatic gearbox (the one with E and S selection on the side)

It is described in Mondeo workshop manual.. there are load of them on ebay, and they allmost cost nothing.

The V6 box is well know for being weak, this could be the begining of the end. Get it checked out by Ford or live with it with a bit of TLC.
