Does it crank? If not, then it's an over-heating starter motor, probably agravated by it being crap

You are probably losing fuel pressure. Will it start if you crank it over for ages?

I had the same problem.

Keep turning it over, mine used to take about 4-5 minutes to re-start when hot, very embarasing in petrol stations etc.

When you get a chance leave it over night and then check in the morning to see if its retained fuel pressure, i bet it doesn't.

I bet you also get loads of pressure when you take the petrol cap off yea?

Right the fault i had was the one way valve in the fuel pump had gone, so when i switched off i could hear a banging noise from the petrol tank where all the pressurised fuel was being forced back in, hence the pressure when you take the cap off!

Leave the car over night, and before trying to start it, gently push the metering flap down, there should be a little resistance, and it should rise slowly.

If there is no resistance and it springs back up rappidly and bounces etc there is no fuel pressure.

If you are not sure, you can prime the car a few times after and then press the flap down to compare.

I think you will find there is no pressure

Have you compared it to when the cars been primed and found a difference?

You will probably find its the one way valve in the fuel pump. Do you have the cold start injector wired up?

Try unplugging the cold start and then starting it cold, i bet tis just as hard to start, also proving this fault.

You should be able to get the valve from Ford

Yes, i was playing around with a friends series 1 yesterday and was quite amazed you can make the engine run off the cold start valve (no fuel pump relay connected)

I bet you, when you unplug it its a pig to start cold

thermo time switch! / faulty temp sensor!
the thermo time switch only operates when the engine is stone cold, and only drives the cold start injector which 99% of RS's dont use anyway.........

Well i doubt it very much, if he has no fuel pressure its not going to be linked to the CTS is it.......

Very low fuel pressure then, should have more pressure than that

have you had that one way valve off yet for inspection?
