hello all

i have a problem with my s2 rst. i was driving it yesterday, car was ruuning ok

all of a sudden it started to back fire and the engine died, tried starting it again, it would turn over fine but just wouldnt start, left it for a while, it started fine, driving it again today, it started to jerk and the engine died again. it did start up again and know runs ok, i have been advised that it might be the fuel pump, i have checked the purple relay which seems to be ok. is there a way of testing the fuel pump. i know your supposed to hear it prime when you turn the ignition on, but ive never heard it before.
anything else i can check

pls help as getting quite pissed of with not being able to use it, especially when the weathers as nice as this

Right, what you need to do, is drive it again, until it cuts out then switch it off and leave it for more than 10 seconds, switch on, and listen for the pump priming.

The crank it over and listen for the pump running, i bet you find it will prime but wont pump when you crank

My guess is its the distributor sensor breaking down, if it does the fuel pump won't run, you could also whip off a plug lead and see if it sparks to earth....
