Default Tearing my hair out.....

Hi everyone here; great site. My wife has just bought a '96 Escort estate, with a 1.8i engine. The car is great (goes like sh*t off a shovel!), but the only fault is the temperature gauge isn't working. I guess the sender is faulty or the wire broken, but since I sold my last (of 3) Capri, I've driven a Vaux**l.....Try as I might, I just CANNOT locate the damn thing! Any ideas where I should be looking? Any links to a photo of the bit would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, the sensor sticks out the bottom of the thermostat housing on the right hand side of the engine near the coil.. there are TWO temp sensors here, it's the one below..

yeah, trace top rad hose back to thermostat housing, plastic shitty one on these. and at the bottom of it you'll see the temp guage sender, common to go on these, check wiring connections but buy one anyway so's you know which sensor is the one you need, only a few quid.
