just replaced the turbo on my small turbo escort as was leaking oil out seals. everything was fine, boost wise etc b4 taking turbo off (was just the smoke from under bonnet off oil leaking)
now with new turbo on it has no boost, very slowly builds up boost and cant work out why!? checked all pipes and all seems fine.
have checked the small actuator thing it has on side of turbo as been told it has a diafram inside it, it only has a small metal spring, is this right??? this actuator thing had been tampered with as was all loose wheen got it!
other than that the normal actuator was fine so cant c how that wud break as was fine on way to garage to fit the turbo.
any advice appreciated??

sounds like it just needs the new actuator ajusting to that it makes some boost, the shorter you make the rod the more boost it will make, you need to make it too short to get on the pin by about 1/3 of a hole then pull the rod aganst the spring and hook it over, make sure you lock it inplace wit the locking nut aswell otherwise it will vibrate loose again,.

yeah but the actuator was set right with the old small turbo and it just another standard one so the actuator hasnt been touched so it shudnt need moved shud it!!??
the one that been played with is the one that is part of the small turbo, its on side of the turbo, not the 'normal' actuator that wud replace with likes of -31 etc. this one am talking about it part of the turbo, know what mean???

You might need to make a small adjustment to the actuator when swapping the turbo but not a great deal as the wastegate arm doesn't vary that much between turbo's. Are you sure the garage refitted your original actuator? Or maybe the bracket's been bent a little.

It's not actuator - it's recirculation valve. Maybe it's leaking??

as above, ite the std 'dump valve' or recirc valve in this case - the diaphragm may be split, try swapping the one off yuo old turbo and see how that goes...
