mates got a problem with his cougar. He said when turns the ac on you hear something (poss pump?) but the air doesnt get any colder?

any ideas

 

probably needs a re-gas, look in the yellow pages for someone to regas your aircon. ford dealer should be able to do it but expect to get raped, about £50 is the most it'll cost.

 

sounds like it's low on gas, but why? don't just top up if it's lost a lot of gas, find the leak first. but you can expect that a 10 year old car can need a top up due to 'natural' leakage.

running it for long with a low gas charge can damage the compressor
