Default s2 poor start probs

i have 89 s2 mfi which has a poor cold start problem, from cold it cranks and cranks and if i play with the throttle it will eventually start but it misses for a few seconds running on two or three then it clears and runs at about 1200 rpm on fast idle sweet as a nut. if i then switch off and restart it starts first time clean as a whistle. when hot it starts first time,
i was told at a show to disconnect a sensor in the inlet manifold to see if it cured it and it did , so i replaced it 1651725 switch time con and the problem persists so have left it disconnected which works but is not ideal
the car has only done 52000 and runs well once started and returns about 26 mpg any help would be
thanks
