Default Engine Management Computer

A question about the engine management system.
When/if the car battery is disconnected for whatever reason I read that the engine management computer loses its settings and has to reprogrammed.
Reprogrammed?
I own a fiesta 1.6,16v si.

It doesn't need to be reprogrammed. The ecu loses it's learned settings which it needs to re-learn. You'll need to drive the car 5 - 7 miles under varying driving conditions and let the car idle for 5 minutes IIRC.
