How the hell do they work? (outside)

Basically I can't open my door from the outside, i'm guessing that there's a pin that goes onto the handle which in turn, when the handle is pulled, the pin opens the lock? yay or nay?

 

ye kind of, should be rods in the door, id guess either the rod has fallen out or got stuck in its guides, if its stuck then it flexs instead of opperating the lock, easy enough to look at tho, just take the door card out it all should seem straight forward when u look at it
