Default aircon problem

this is my first post on this site.
please can anyone help me ??? i have a 1998 escort gti and my aircon keeps blowing the fuse but this only happends when i turn the aircon on. i can have the blower going all the time but once i hit the aircon button she blows the fuse.... please help if you can

Disconect the air con compressor from under the bonnet and try again. if it dont blow the fuse you no its the compessor .

as above. it could either be the electromagnetic clutch on the compressor drawing too much current, or the fan(s) in front of the condenser (don't know what is on what fuse)

where abouts is the compressor ??? do i just discondect the wires ?? also if it is the compressor is it easy to replace and i bet its expensive.

the compressor is driven by the belt on the front of the engine.

it will have 2 rubber and aluminium pipes going to it, one fatter than the other.

there will be either a single or twin core cable running to the electromagnetic clutch at the front of it - there will be a connector mounted on the compressor probably.

it can be done relatively easily and cheaply if you know the right companies to go to.

find the problem first, and we'll go from there.

i have found out that the magnetic clutch is fooked. are they easy to replace and do ford still sell the part or is it a whole new compressor. what sort of price would i be looking at ?????
