Default 1600 CVH Loosing Oil

My 1600 CVH is loosing oil.
Fine you think.. there's nothing astounding about that.
But.. Where is it all going?

My stem seals are knackered and it does smoke on startup but surely I wouldn't loose 'that' much oil from this (it drains pretty quick!).

Also, it seems to run down to the 'minimum' mark on the dipstick but never any lower.
Is this purely down to the valve stem oil seals?
If yes, why doesn't it run completely dry?

Damn feck-arse cars.

you will lose oil,my rst was losing about a litre in a month, and the stem seals were not that bad.If you have no visible oil leak and it only smokes on start up its a good chance that it is just the stem seals. cant answer why it doesnt run completely dry though!!

Most probably it pumps all the oil in to the induction side and burns it. This is because of the dodgy standard breather setup. Undo one of the induction pipes and see if it's all oily. Also undo a spark plug and see if it's all black.

If your oil stem seals are worn out/knackered, then oil does seem to diaper at quite an alarming rate, more than you would expect.
Change the stem seals and see if it fixes the oil consumption problem

Cheers

Cheers for the replies. .. just wanted to put my mind at rest.
I didn't really want to change the seals as the whole lump may be getting replaced next year (140k can't be good for an engine). I was just curious as to whether something more serious, and pressing, was wrong.

Thanks again
