turbos have evolved a LOT since t34.... never the less Dave Henshall has a point!
investigate garret GT28R turbo... think it would be more apropriet for 350bhp...

GT3271 is far better in every way than a T34, with a 0.48 or 0.63 housing.. and cheaper new than Ive seen most T34's second hand...
I don't know why you lot still hang on to them so much, it is so old hat...

you would need a remap though i would think when its installed as it will flow differently than a T34,
how much are you looking at for a brand spanking GT3271...? does it fit direct or do you need to start butchering...?

T34, tried & tested, performs faultlessly, is ideal for 350bhp.. bolts straight in!!
Please explain how a GT turbo is superior.. and please don't come out with any 'faster spool' crap..

The GT32 has a wider range, slightly larger compressor side than the step down TO4B based comp wheel in the T34. The turbine wheel is slightly larger, and has two options of turbine a/r, 0.69 or .78, and the output flange flange can be opened up from 2.5" to 2.8" if nesseccary. It has a standard T3 manifold flange.
Then there is the off the shelf option of having the GT 76mm compressor wheel fitted to the same housing, with potential for 520bhp and all cheaper brand new than the cost you see most T34's second hand..

Not only will it flow better than 350bhp, but the efficiency map starts earlier than what the T34 can supply. Hence, wider range.

Here are the two comp wheels (71 and 76mm) available - Even the 76mm comp wheel is damn good compared to the 71, hardly any difference at the left of the map, yet it will flow a good 12lbs more a minute if nesseccary..

Also, you must take into consideration the fact that you're not going to be achieving 350bhp @ 1 bar to stay in the peak efficiency area of the GT35 map.. Once you actually pipe up to the 1.6 bar (or thereabouts) that you need (at a reasonable efficiency) then you're starting to wander a little bit..

What actually happens in reality is the T34 surges, but you don't hear it, feel it, and it doesn't break anything.. but the GT35's can't run full boost until they get to about 30lb/min of air flow.. otherwise they surge themselves to pieces..
The GT range are great.. but something like a 35 really belongs on an engine with much more flow at lower pressure ratios (like a big v8) where you're nowhere near the deadly surge line..
I'm just talking from experience here..

Ill go and tell Garrett to throw away all their new comp wheels and stick with the 30 year old designs then!
Your T34 only hits a max of 73% effciency, and loses this at any thing over a bar, where as the GT32 holds 78% right up to 1.8bar, and can pull more peak boost over a wider range with better efficiency..
If you look at the GT32 map, the least efficient range shown is 65%, on the T34 map, they plot right down to 50, so ignore those lines and look how narrow the efficiency range is if you stop at 65%..
And were not talking about GT35's here (as a whole turbo), were talking about GT32s..

Here's a better plot of all three..
As you can see the T34 is quite close to the GT3271, but not quite. Remember also, the T34 uses a bigger a/r comp housing, which in the real world affects spoolup.

What you have to weigh up also, is for the cost of rebuilding a T34, and getting back a used, but reconditioned and sandblasted unit, for a little bit more you could buy a brand new turbo each time...

They are both GT3271...
But, always get the full part number before ordering. The GT32 is also made in a 3267 type with a 67mm comp wheel, so ask to be 100% sure what you are getting.
Only Precision Turbo offer the GT32 in the GT3276 version which is the 500hp compressor wheel.
