is the radiator mounted properly? has the car ever been crashed and the front panel pushed inwards slightly?

Default your belt

the only other option is to take the old belt off go to your nearest parts place and get a smaller fan belt ,my cousins series two was doing the same thing and now its spot on with a smaller belt not the best way but it will get you out of trouble for the time being

Don't mention shorter belts I've got a series 2 rad in a MK3 cabby and FUCK ME is it close, ive got the smallest belt possible on there and with the alternator against the block u still have to lever it over the pulleys, and ive got about 2mm clearance
