My dad has a Mk6 Escort 1.6 Ghia
Last night his cam belt snapped, ripped off the plastic casing.
He couldn't stop straight away as he was on a roundabout, but he pulled over as soon as he could.
It's being collected tomorrow and he's been told by his mechanic that they will try a new cam belt and see how it goes. Does that sound right? Im not technical, just doesn't sound right to me? Thought they'd have to strip it down and check the valves etc or is it easy have a quick glance?
Any help/suggestions much appreciated

worth doing a check 1st by fitting new belt to see IF he was lucky(very much dought it though)
maybe just as cheap to get a 2nd head and have that fitted ALL dependant on damage to head OR even an engine at worst

probably be easier and cheaper just to get a second hand head when it happened on my astra i went to a place called 24/7 spares they gave me a new head for 80 quid including postage. My mate done it for me in about 2 hours and the car was fine ever since. Better than the 1000 quid plus vauxhalls wanted!!!!
