Default Clutch maybe?

Recently ive noticed the car over revving ( )

Its a mk5 facelift 1995 escort 1.6 16V

And I pull away in 1st, into second and into third..

Im in third & I put the boot down a good bit & the car seems to rev more than pull

My mate said to "test" the clutch.. I should park with handbrake on & select 1st & let the clutch go beyond the biting point. I did so & it was pulling the car & eventually stalled!

Ideas?

Might be the clutch but they aren't very much for your engine if you just want a bobby basic

Sounds like the clutch to be honest, just drive along in a high gear and floor it and see if the rev counter moves round more in proportion to the speedo than normal, should be fairly easy to tell.

Biting point getting higher and higher could suggest the clutch or the self adjuster on the pedal. See if its slipping first.

Should easily be able to get a clutch for about £50-£60 for this

Yeah, when driving in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc and I go to speed up it revs more than it pulls

Clutch then?

How much for a clutch?

Sounds like the clutch then. As David Ramsey said the clutches for these are 10 to a penny but its going to get expensive when you have to pay some other monkey to fit it. It would be worthwhile putting a new clutch pedal quadrant and pawl on the clutch pedal aswell, as they are prone to wear/breaking.

Can't remember how much I paid to get my clutch fitted exactly but it wasn't as much as the clutch. I took it to a local garage owned by an rs fanatic and he done it for me.

All i can really say to that then is that must of been one expensive clutch cos theyre 10 to a penny for a standard RS clutch, like £30 for a complete kit!!!!
