Excessive Turbo Heat
I have a problem of excessive heat coming from my turbo, there is a constant smell of burning rubber too.the bottom of the turbo also has a white powdery coating on it now. local ford garage was no help . I have a 92 4x4 sapphire. Thanks
the white powdery coating is probably residue left from traces of coolant leaking from the cooling pipe banjo's.. You will probably never see the leak as it evaporates as fast as it leaks.. If you undo the coolant pipes from the turbo, you'll probably find the aluminium sealing washers are cracked. Nowt to worry about really, but if you do decide to undo them to have a look, make sure you have new replacement washers first
They are only pence form Ford, but you will have to fit new ones if you undo them.

As for the burning rubber, just take a quick look and see if some goon has fitted Nyloc type bolts anywhere on the turbo -manifold mountings or exhaust -turbo mountings.
Seen this error before and the nylon inserts stink as they die... lol

Check that the turbo return pipe that connects to the sump isnt touching the turbo anywhere as that could be whats bruning!!! Also have u got a heatshield at all?! Cos if not could be the clutch cable or something touching the turbo.
