Default timing/firing order

hi guys am having a few probs try to start my stage3 2wd engine after a full rebuild an everyfink in the engine is brand new,ive turned it over a couple of times and it wanted to start but dnt jst coughed and splutted,cud smell the petrol getting in there but jst cudnt get the timing bang on, all the points meet up on the pulleys and piston no1 is at TDC . ive been doing it all rite cos ive got the full manual,but what iam wondering is cud it be the firing order, the manual says its 1-3-4-2 but ive been told by a mechanic that it is 1-2-4-3,is he rite and also cud u's try to help me out why any info on trying to get it started as ive been trying 4 a week thanks guys.

the firing order is 1 3 4 2 mate

try priming engine then disconect fuel pump maybe too much fuel
then try to start with fuel pump off have u checked gaps/fuel pressure/engine earth straps/coolant sensor/iat sensor etc

When I built mine spent ages making sure everything was right and it very nearly was. When I tried to start it I had the same problem as you. After spending a couple of hours scratching my head I realised that I had pot 1 at the wrong end of the engine......... Swapped the leads around and job done.

1,3,4,2 anti clockwise, No1 segment in cap being nearest the TPS.

Check you plugged the phase sensor in teh right way inside dizzy

xr3iturbo,thanks m8 wil ave a go at that,its got fresh petrol in it,im using new 071s s1 spark plugs an ave been gap to 0.6 an every is in the rite order wiv sensors,but i failed to replace the dizzy cap an rotor arm

sevens,how do u mean bout pot 1?? i dnt follow u

stu, how do u mean by anti clockwise and TPS pls

sorry if this sud b easy 4 any1 to understand but ive had my head stuck up my arse since i put it bk toegther,had the know how,how to rebuild it, but not wen it came up to setting the dissy
