Default Converting to a Turbo

I have a 1989 xr3i engine, how hard is it to convert ti RS Turbo spec ?

u will need a turbo engine,loom, radiator, intercooler ,metering head ,exhaust and if u want a lsd gearbox!

your talking
engine 200
loom 50
rad 50+
intercooler 20
metering head 50
zaust 80-100
gearbox 100-150

i just thought that the existing engine could have been turboed but obviously not.

You can turbo your engine. But it depends to what extent for what you will need to do.

I think you can run around 7 or 8psi on the standard engine so you will just need a turbo,manifold for the turbo. A lot of re-wiring and get the fueling sorted. Possibley new injectors.

If you wanted to run more boost than that you would need a low comp rebuild.

I was thinking of doing the same with my xr3i,i have the turbo,exhaust and intercooler,would it run any sort of boost by just fitting the turbo to it

i would fit the whole system from a good rs turbo you heard running. its not to hard a job but you need to make sure you have all the parts so maybe buy a full car crashed and swap over .

you can run around 7 or 8psi on the standard engine (ford sold a kit like that for the std XR3 many years ago, before the s1 appeared...) but watch out for ignition advance and fueling after the conversion...
