Default Koni front struts

I need to remove the spring cups from them, i dont want to grind them off as i need the original weld to stay there to form the base for my coilover conv kit to sit. Can i do this by holding the shock in a vice and knocking the cup down to hopefully break the weld and remove it from the strut?

Bought converted konis before, they were done properly. I am trying to replicate these, all is done just need the cups removing but dont know who done the originals so cant find out. They worked really well and felt a lot better then the original set up. I have seen lots of cars with converted struts so i know its not dodgy. Anyway BTTT for my original question.

yes just get a angle grinder and grind around the weld and then tap the seat off.

Hi Steve,
Like the idea of the conversion. No reason at all why it should not work. Maybe, rather than using an angle grinder, you could use some kind of recipricating (Spelling?) cutter to make a neater job of it.
Cheers

Have managed to do one of them, done it by gradually cutting with a junior hacksaw carefully along the top of the weld. Cutting just deep enough so as to separate the cup from the strut and knocking it off with a hammer. I now have the original weld still there and a nice solid base for the coilover kit to sit on. Will get some pics up when there finished

Why not just make the coil-over kit to sit on the top of the strut?
