After speaking with a friend yesterday about Moto GP we ended up in a conversation about desmo valve operation. Iv had a look on Wiki but I think the info on how the system operates is a bit vague, so would really appreciate if somebody can explain it better, possibly with a video clip of it in operation?

DESMO or DESMODROMIC merely means that the cam/s are GEAR DRIVEN, ie do nit employ belts, chains, just a set of gears, operating (normal) POPPET VALVES, although some have in the past operated ASPIN VALVES.

The Ducati desmo uses a cam belt to drive the cams, the main difference is that it uses no valve springs and relies on a second lobe to shut the valve meaning no valve float at high revs.

Desmo are belt driven. Opening rocker and closing rocker for each valve. System used to control valve bounce and better control for valve, ie being able to close later than spring type set up.
