I fancy changing my ST200 for a ST2 or ST3 as I'm changing jobs, less mileage, and I don't have a real nead anymore for a car the size of a Mondeo but I do need a towbar.

I've been told that you can't fit one to the ST2 etc, because of the exhaust being accross the rear just behind the bumper. However has anyone done it?

 

i seen one advertised in the auto trader with a tow bar, the ad said with optional extra removeable towbar ?

 

ask ford if they do a factory fit kit
if not then you'r probably out of luck

 

just looked on fords website, and a towbar is an option for the focus.

But it doesn't say if it can fit Focus ST since the standard Focus only has one exhaust.

 

as i said above, i seen one in the trader with a tow bar fitted, it had pics with the ad, and it was the same tow bar that is on ford site, so im gathering it will fit, could be wrong.

As ford dont state a maximum towable weight for the ST, i'd advise against fitting one as it may be similar to the CTR, which is like the ST and doesnt have a max tow weight as towing with these destroys the rear suspension very quickly, by all accounts.

from what i can remember, the st has a different boot floor to accomodate the bigger exhausts, so, to coin a phrase, seems that you're shit out a luck

 

Opinion is divided then. In the local Ford showroom the answer was no.

On Witter’s website they list the ST as “Vehicle Not Homologated for Towing”. I’ll phone some of the other towbar manufactures to see if they list one.

If anyone sees one and can get a photo, in particular of how it mates with the bumper or even better some info from the owner I’d appreciate it.

 

You can always have one custom made.
I had the same prob with a sapphy cos, in as much as ford do not list tow weights for it etc, they then told me they did not know if the brakes/suspension were up to it!!

My 2010 focus st 2 was fitted with a tow bar from my local tow bar fitter with no problems just needed longer neck to get past bumper. But remember the st is fitted with a racing clutch so only tow small things , not caravans or boats or it will damage your clutch, there is no danger towing with the st the same as any other focus and mine has just past an m o t there is no law saying you can't fit one it is just the manufacturer covering there arse on the clutch that the car was not homlogated to have one , the cost of fitting was Ł220 and I did a lot of homework beforehand , hope this will help anyone wanting an st tow bar fitted.do have some pics if you need to see.
