Default mtx gearbox conversion in to s1 escort

I know this has been asked a lot of times, but what is the best gearbox to use and from what car to put in a s1 escort, and if anybody has got pictures of the mounts and any more info I would appreciate it

You’ll want the RS version as it’s fitted with a lsd

I believe the bell housing is a bit bigger too as The FRS clutch doesn't fit in some of the other MTX boxes?

Hey Gadget, did the S1 ARB fit straight on with that conversion?

I THINK(!) the bell housing is the same on all MK1 Focus hydraulic clutch MTX75 boxes. The only difference is for diesel lumps, which have the front mount starter. The FRS clutch problem occurs when using a rod change box from a MK5/6 Escort.

It's hard to find answers though. I've got a MK1 Focus box in my MK5 RS2000 and can't get the RS2000 flywheel/clutch to work. About to try a MK1 Focus 2.0 flywheel clutch instead.

Think it depends on which RS clutch you use doesn't it? Some hit, some don't.

if I can't find a frs box, does anybody know what mtx75 box to use and out of what car, I seen people talk about the 2.0 mondeo petrol, would the gear ratios be ok, I know it hasn't got a lsd but I can buy one separate

I think the ratios in the standard 2.0 Focus are pretty much the same as in the FRS, it's just the final drive that's a bit shorter.

Hi mate, had the modify the drivers side cast mount bracket to clear the alternator but other than that it has clearance everywhere.
It's yet to have a shakedown so we'll see. It the roll bar is close to the box so at worst may need flipping to the other side of the tie bar.

If you have a look on seriesoneturbo in the resto section, have a look at OVO and the moving goal posts, on page 2 there are some photos of a MK1 FRS MTX install they are the last pics posted up.
