the probe was supposed to be the new capri but never lived up to it, give me Bodies 3.0 S any day, you can even keep your 2.8 injections nice but not the real deal.

Love the 325i sport, I had an mtec1 and my dad had the 2 like the one above, I then had an e30 m3 evo after he died. The tech 2 felt streets ahead of anything I had driven at the time.

Friend of mine had one of these older shape G11's, it was fairly rough but flew off the line. It would deal with mk2 golf gtis etc up until about 60 when it ran out of puff! His was black with a big red stripe along the side. I also remember the rotary knob on the dash to wind the boost up and the green turbo light on the dash when it was on boost. Awesome little weapon!

Some really cool cars here in this thread, mk1 Astra GTE, Lotus Carlton and e30 325i Sport are all high on my 'wish I had one of those' list. The R5 GTT was fantastic fun when I had one 20 years ago but I think that memory is best left there as a memory as the example I had was falling apart back then already..

I still see the odd 205 gti, 306 gti6's are good cars too, charade GTTI's were brilliant, Suzuki swift GTI's were pretty quick for what they were, used to rev and rev too, corolla ae86s used to be quite common and dirt cheap, used to be a couple of pulsars near me, love them. Was thinking the other day when did I last actually see an XR3i on the road? Do still spot the odd mk2 golf GTI too.

I had 2 blue and one red,all hatch on e plate. My mate had an F plate saloon in white, I was gutted as I fancied a saloon but they were few and far between even in those days.
I bet the prices are on the up like a lot of 80/90's hot hatches.

Thanks. Lee.

starion turbo was an excellent car, I always liked the angled styling. I seen a short wheel base audi Quattro yesterday on my drive home in the scottish highlands. not seen one of those in many years.

The Mitsubishi Starion Turbo was made in South Australia, I was living there when it first came out and it was a very fast car for that time and was capable of out performing most Aussie V8s.

This era of cars is for me the best.

I was born in 1985 and being a country bumpkin brought up in a field it wasn't till I was 15,16 that I started to pay attention to cars.

from what I can remember from being in last years of school, the local youngsters had Metro's, Fiesta's and Punto's.

Firm favourite was Fiesta MK3.5 Si, MK3 XR2i, MK1 and MK2 Fiestas, Metro GTA/GTi, Novas and I remember there was a Grey S2 turbo with white wheels that use to drive past the park we played football on.

Cars nowadays just lack character and looks. There easily mistaken for another model. Bring back the 80's/90's look!

there are some cracking cars for the youth of today.

fiesta ST, renaultsport clios, all bmw's now are turbocharged!

the average hot hatch now is as fast as any supersaloon or sports car from the 80s/90s

compare the performance of an xr3i and a clio renault sport and although the insurance is a HUGE cost nowadays it isnt all doom and gloom for new drivers.

our first cars had 1.2 litre engines running carbs for 45bhp, modern small cars have turbochargers and make twoce that power using half the fuel!!

But weigh twice as much so power to weight is the same or worse.

Obviuosly things have moved on leaps and bounds in the last 20-30 years and some of todays performance cars are animals.

But your normal cars are pretty shit.

Back then most of the youngsters I knew the cars were so simple and easy to fix and modify that everyone was at it and youngsters learned so much about cars by working on them etc. I struggle working on some newer stuff and I've been a mechanic for 21 years now. Had a 2.0 Capri in at work couple of months back for gearbox rebuild and clutch, new Weber carb and fit a stereo. Was sooooo easy to work on I could see why all the old boy mechanics must have shit them selves when new stuff came out with fuel injection etc. It's all relative I suppose, when I started in 1996 we were working on cars from the late 70s and 80s cars, makes me feel old when I realise 1986 cars were only 10 years old then and we were welding them up, the mig welder was on all day everyday. With me going from my apprenticeship working on mk1/2 astras, mk3/4 escorts and such like cars I now struggle with a lot of the technology that's in cars now so I can see what the old boys must have felt
