Can I ask if you are looking at getting more braking power? If you are my advice would be to go for a big brake kit including new 4 or 6 pot calipers. It will be a big improvement over the standard set up and well worth the outlay.
I am not sure you will gain much by fitting bigger discs with the standard calipers.

This is what I have on my 2wd Saff and they work very well.Mine are the Hi-Spec kit but there are lots of different set-ups from various companies.

standard 2wd calipers can be made to fit 325mm discs or was it 300mm cant quite remember now but you will need to space the calipers to suit. I do have the spacers buried somewhere in my garage but should be quite easy to remake as its just a small cylinder type of tube

Why would you want to keep the standard calipers? They are very heavy as they are cast iron and in my experience the pistons also seize quite quickly on them. If it was me I'd go for a nice aluminium Brembo caliper, like the ones from a BMW E38.

So would I. I have Focus RS Brakes on my Saph but am having to keep to standard brakes on the 3dr as the wheels wont fit otherwise. If I decide to change the wheels then the brakes will be upgraded for Focus RS brakes

.

Cheers for the replies, The only reason I was thinking of using the original callipers is due to the fact I already have them and if there was a simple bigger bolt on disc upgrade it's easy.
I'm trying to keep a factory spec disc for ease of replacements, cost and keeping it simple. they are going on my convert Escort RS Turbo, not going full race spec car or anything like that so wanted an upgrade to match the rear 4x4 brakes I already have.

I do like the look of the E38 callipers and Focus RS disc, the callipers do look very similar to a set of Porsche Brembo's I have already.

Cheers again.

On my 400bhp Moonstone 3dr I had standard sized but uprated discs with fereodo ds2500 pads - it worked fine but it did sometimes get a little scary after 100mph and then having to stomp on the anchors

Cheapest way of doing this would be 300mm discs from a focus ST and 4x4 front calipers - this should then fit behind a 15" wheel - i know the RS7 spokes fit over these

Personally if i was to spend 1500 on brakes i would go for the biggest i can get which would obviously mean a wheel change hence why my saph runs Hocks now.

That's my point, that kit is specifically designed as a max fit for the standard wheel. There are plenty of Cosworth owners that wish to retain the OE wheel, same goes for the RS Turbo guys.

I used a pair of mg tf ap 4 pots with st170 300mm discs to fit behind a 15" wheel on my capri, calipers are around £200 a pair discs from £50 a pair depending which ones u want, brackets need to be made but nothing that's hard, pretty decent set up for not much money.

I've been running standard calipers with the Hi Spec 325mm Kit on for past 12 years and done loads of trackdays and they've been fine.

Is it this kit mate

http://www.bigbrakes4u.co.uk/index.p...productId=3966

It says standard callipers but the discs are 30mm, the calliper gap is only 26.5mm

That kit does have belled discs, pic is not the correct discs. Have you got any pics of yours fitted.

Did you have to modify the callipers in anyway or are the disc still factory 24mm thick???

You have to add the little spacers supplied in the kit mate so probably have to split the calipers first then add the spacers

What about the copper pipes that link both sides of the calliper together won't you have to extend them if you space the callipers apart?

Martin I'm saving for an Ap 6 pot kit and always wondered why you have to pay extra for a red calliper? It's not just you who does this, you can buy wheels in different colours free of charge but AP's are extra?

Just curious.
