I fear I may have over paid for this.
Hello I bought this car but I don't know too much about in terms of value but it drove very well and looks nice. Let's be honest what's done i done I bought it but be brutally honest. Tell me if I made a fool out of myself in terms of the price.
It's a 1992 Ford Sierra 4x4 CLX Estate with a 2.0 engine. According to the paperwork it was first registered by Ford Werke AG as a repmobile. It has a factory RS body kit. I paid 2500 euros for it. Was this a fair price? It will get a YB swapped in but for now I may bolt a small turbo onto the 2.0
Cheers

That looks bloody lovely that mate. I'd say with the price of these cars going up every week then it sounds fair. Bet it's sluggish with the 2.0 twin cam and 4x4? Be awesome with a yb in it, keep us updated on that job matey!!

Ł2,200 or so - about right if it's as good as it looks, no rot and everything works.
My inclination, if you are worried about value, is to keep it original. You will spend a lot more than the €2,500 on either of the engine changes you mention unless you are a great mechanic with access to all the tools, parts and technology needed.
If it were in the UK, RHD and all genuine, low mileage, no rot etc. I'd be happy paying Ł2k - perfect for my fishing trips.....

So the car stands you at best part of 5k?
Really its worth what YOU would pay for it, clearly there are a lot of good cars you can get for that money, but to you, this might be your exact dream car?

The US never got the estate only the Mk1 3 door briefly.
The dealer drove it to the shipper who will put it on a truck and take it to port.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Looks like a really nice clean estate - I'd love one with a YB in
Takes me right back as I had an estate 20 years ago
Also, love the front grill, unusual compared to U.K. Spec I think, makes it look like a miniature Granada.

It's certainly a dream car of mine. I have been looking for one and they are few and far between. The 4x4 is a bonus and in black with the RS body kit. I truly would have hated myself if I didn't buy it.

I doubt there is another Sierra estate in the US at this time. Which is a shame as I will have to get body panels straight from overseas if need be.

There won't be many YB engines over there either

looks a good buy and good to hear its going somewhere there are none, nice to be different.
How will this fair with importing it if there is nothing for them to judge it again or has it hit the age that it can be imported easier

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
That looks to be a very tidy clean car, it's a very rare spec so I think you paid the right price for it - European used car prices tend to be much higher than our UK used prices anyway.
Will be good fun with a YB installed.

Yes the irony "the land of the free" (it's not) won't let you bring whatever car you want until it's 25 years old. 24 years 364 days? They freak out and will crush it if you don't ship back. 25 years and 0 days? Yeah it's fine. FFS......

Boosting
Looks good for the money - about right as people have said. You could wack a low pressure supercharger on that engine for the time being and it would take it all day long. The valves on those engines are HUGE lol. Fantastic for exclusivity especially in the US - nobody will have a clue! And yeh, crazy US rules - the list is endless!

Well the car shipping was pushed back and it has just boarded its ship in Bremerhaven and it will arrive in Long Beach, California (Los Angeles area) on January 9th or so. I also received the German paperwork for it as well. I didn't know Borbet made Ford's RS wheels.
Man I wish it could get here. I don't know what to do with myself. I'm stocking up on dashboard parts from the Merkur XR4TI.

That's a nice car with a nice optione, 4x4, ABS, aircon, RS kit. Estates are getting rare now in general, so you have a very cool one! I haved never liked the RS grill though, it doesn't match with the rest of the car in my opinion. It's a bit of a shame though that the drivers seat is swapped for a GT one and doesn't match the rest of the interior.

Good luck sourcing estate rear seats in leather, as far as I was able to find out, they made 3, and I had one of them
Easier to get the cloth replaced, simple to remove it from the seat frame, just don't lose any of the 5,000 little clips that hold the material in place
