Sentimental keepsakes
Hanging on my garage wall is the old original 50's number plate from the Ford Pop I bought and built back in 1978. 3.0 V6, chrome Jag rear - all the rage at the time. Car was sold back in 1984 and probably no longer around.
What valueless keepsakes do you have ?

I used to go to a bakery for my lunch every day back in 2000.
Across the road sat a sorry looking rs1600i,I always wanted it and in 2011 I got the chance to buy it.
It was red rotten but I bought every panel for it and got a guy round to quote for welding,he said it was a huge job,I asked if 4k would cover the welding and he said no way.
I could have bought a vgc rs1600i back then for around 6k so I cut it up.
I cut out the section of 1/4 panel with the "rs1600i" sticker on it,that's hangs in my garage, along with a cut up cossie bootlid and spoiler and a big airbrushed painting of a scottish glen scene featuring Sean Connery in a kilt and my mate phils mum (random coincidence but the likeness is uncanny) showing some cleavage.

I have a 5 door 1.2 Vauxhall nova that was left to me when my grandfather passed away, iv had to weld it from one end to the other and replace most of the panels, isn't worth anything probably never will be, but its of great value to me and il never get rid.

I've a Raleigh Chopper Mk2 hanging on the wall in my unit, not totally worthless (going by eBay prices) but the bike is older than me and been with my half my life and holds so many memories.
In 1972 was faced with a biggie. Buy my own House on a Mortgage at Ł50 a month & sell my pride & joy for the deposit or except a works subsidized house that was bigger & better at the time & only Ł30 a month. I chose to buy my own house. I removed the badge from the car & I still have it 44 years later was looking at it just a few days ago.
Correct decision or not, my best friend accepted the Works house lost the discount when he was made redundant & is still paying rent on it 44 years later. Ive been Mortgage free for 15 years & its now worth 600k+. Sometimes its best to sell your pride & joy BUT I still have that Badge.

Only keepsakes I have are,
A teddy that was given to me as a newborn (37yrs ago)
A couple of gifts my last girlfriend bought me (only 5 wks ago we split)
Anything else can go. Photos are where it's at in my opinion. So long as I have photo's of family, good times, girlfriends(so long as they were not cunts) and even cars I am content.

Before once the pic was taken you had to use the rest of the film then get it developed to see what was on it.
I'm not a sentimental person so don't tend to keep any momentos. once ive got bored of something its gone and often have clear outs every couple of years and bin most stuff ive gathered.
I do still have a steiff teddy bear I was given by my dad when I was born, didn't see him for 40 years after he split from my mum when I was 3. he was surprised I still had it when I flew to Australia to meet him again 2 years ago, hed also given me a quala bear teddy at the same time but that's long gone.

So I'm not the only one then, that's nice to know.
my nickname "rooos".
a high school friend of mine, gave that to me long-long time ago.
it was related to a doggerel which translated means "rooos, rooos, shit on yourself", lol. looks kinda offensive, but i made my joke too, so i found that nice...
he wasn't my very very best pal, but i'd really admired him, his way of thinking, like an example to follow.
sadly he brutally died in a car accident at the age of 20.
i'm writing this tag each time i can, on the gloves and shoes at work, on the car, walls, etc. even at the cost to look vain... i don't give a sh*t.
Matteo G. R.i.P., i won't forget you...

Sad to say I have a few,
still have the gear lever and extension from my first car an original Vauxhall viva, managed to fit it to a mk6 escort a few years ago and its now waiting to get used again (had to wait 25 years last time) also have the exhaust tail trim from my first kit car (30 years and still waiting) and then there's my twin 40 weber carbs from my first ford a 1600 mk2 escort which after 20 years were reconditioned that was 10 years ago and they still have not found a new engine to be fitted to.
Lots of cars have been and gone but its only these old parts from my firsts that I kept and they will be used again its just a matter of when.
actually I still have a badge from a mgb gt. I bought it because it was missing and it never got fitted, wonder what else I have lying around?

the 3 door sierra i insist on keeping, my dad bought it for me on fathers day when i was 17 im 32 now, i did a lot of work on it and built it as a cosworth replica and had it on road then i had an accident and smashed it up, i couldnt bear to part with it so it went on the back burner sat unloved for a few years, then i started rebuilding it again, i am waiting for it to go in for paint (but i have been for a while, its what happens when a mates doing it) then i can drive it again, i really cant wait

I bought it from a powder coaters years ago for Ł40,the guy had it done for a show and after that it just sat in the reception area.
Would have cost a bit to airbrush it.
I was in a few times and always asked if he would sell it,eventually he did.
Like I said,it's def Sean Connery and the likeness to my pals mum is uncanny,a fact I always remind him of when he's in my garage ha ha!
