Exhaust manifold coatings....
I'm thinking of possibly getting my standard 2wd exh manifold coated later in the year, I know zirtec and other such companies can coat manifolds in a range of different colours and finishes, my question is do any of these coatings actually last and still look good years after.
I've seen quite a few that have been done, in various colours but after a while start to look a bit shitty and discoloured.
Do any actually last?
I know it's partly from a performance point of view but the main reason I'd be looking at getting it done is cos the standard manifolds look an awful rusty colour!
Any experiences anyone?
Cheers Paul

I know it's slightly off topic mate but if your planning on fitting an efr you'll need a new manifold anyway so wouldn't you be better holding off? I'd imagine you'd still want the new manifold coated so the question is still relevant I suppose.

I would def go black. My zircotec is blue and it marks really easily but not easy to clean.

The only coating I recommend is Zircoat and go for black.

I'm still reserved on the turbo front until I've been in an efr car.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I know people say it keeps the engine bay temperatures down but does it do it by much?
Does it really improve performance.

A lot of race teams use it so I assume it works. It might just be "snake oil" but I know I can put my hand on mine shortly after driving it. Performance gains are claimed but I doubt anyone would actually notice any difference but less heat soak has to be good and it is supposed to speed up the gasses.

Keeping engine bay temps down is a massive plus on its own if it means the air filter is not breathing in really hot air. Plus looking at a few I've seen there really close to the master cylinder so again cooler is better

I've had mine done for 5 years now. Certainly lasts and certainly works, it was done by Zircotec. I had the performance white I think. The colours are definitely a secondary benefit, and yes it definitely helps with heat management in the engine bay.
It should also help contain heat and enhance the scavenging effect of the exhaust gases and that's where they claim the performance benefit. I reckon it also prolongs the life of a stainless steel exhaust manifold by reducing the risk of cracking.
There is a reason why some of the top motorsport series and companies use Zircotec.

Just for note really, performance white marks very easily, even with the natural oils from your skin sometimes. However, nearly all marks burn off and disappear once the manifold gets up to working temperature from some full throttle.
Even made a mess from a nylon fleece by leaning over the bay and that disappeared. The only stuff you really need to wash off with soapy water is oil that's more than a few droplets.
The colours that Zircotec apply are on top of the coating and provide a finish that's easier to keep clean. The extra colour layer doesn't make any difference to the performance of the product.

zircotec performance metallic black is the best colour by far just a shame you dont see the manifold once it fitted on a cossie.
