What is the main differences if any between the BOB engine from the 95-98 Scorpio and the BOA Granada Cosworth engine.

Im sure its something to do with the ecu one you can do the swap and run on the original ecu and other you can't correct me if im wrong.The boa is the one you can on the ford ecu . Good engines with alot of potential

 

BOA = solid duplex timing chain
BOB = single timing chain (crappy tensioner until '98)

The BOA is suitable for manual transmission rebuilds the BOB not.
The BOA is more nippy IMO. But technically both engines are great.
But would always go for BOA. Twin Turbo and manual transmission rebuild the best.

 

not sure but i think bob is single cams and boa is twin cam also i think boa si 2.9 and bob is 2.8. i had a boa once it was on a vauxhall viva it was awesome is sold it after a few weeks though so can t say about reliability nor parts....

Both are 2.9 (2936 cc) 24v DOHC engines. The BOB short block has stronger castings around the main bearings than the BOA, which means it can rev a bit higher. The BOB heads are a bit shorter because the head bolts at the back are outside the cam covers. As said the BOA has a single duplex chain and the BOB has two single chains.

The BOB has a bit more power and torque due to different cam timing with higher lift (BOA = 9.0 mm, BOB = 9.5 mm). And the inlet manifold on the BOB flows better and has a variable inlet system (VIS).

The BOA has a EEC IV computer which runs fine without the standard autobox. The BOB has a EEC V which runs in limp home mode without the autobox. The BOB also has PATS, which makes it even more difficult to use the BOB in a different car than the Scorpio.

You can run the BOB on a BOA loom and EEC IV computer, but you need to lengthen some wires, use the BOA MAF sensor and use an aftermarket RPM switch to control the VIS valve.

 

Marc is spot on.
When my boa went bang u fitted a bob. Runs on the boa loom ecu. Vis inlet is locked in the closed position.
Bob has taken far more abuse than the boa did. Also fits better in the Sierra engine bay due to the shorter heads.
Mine did 220bhp 200ft/lbs on the rollers.

 

Is it a hard job adapting the loom? Im looking at a whole BOB conversion at a good price but ive only known people to run BOA's.

TPS, coil pack and IACV wires need to be extended by about 3 to 6", not hard

Is it worth the extra cost to fit the rpm switch as opposed to leaving the vis unused when using the above setup, i.e. Boa ecu?.... i know what the vis does in principle however will it be all that noticeable/ give value for money.....

 

This is mine. 2 runs done with the vis locked closed 1 run with the vis open.

 

Are the Mondeo 24v engines a possibility to fit longways and make RWD/4x4?

The info in this particular thread is outdated...not that strange given it's revival from years back.

I run a Cossie BOB on ORIGINAL cosworth BOB EEC-V ecu. I do also run the autobox from the original BOB and the pats is actively working.

Adapting the loom from a BOB to work is not that hard if you know what you are doing. I had it done by a specialist enthusiast.

Also there's a group of people in the UK who have unlocked the EEC-V ecu. They can turn pats on and off, same for auto or manual box configuration. They can even remap the ecu... If I'm not mistaken this goes for all EEC-V's except for the TACK one.

Anyway, I wanted a fast cruiser so I'm very happy to have the autobox as well.

 

my BOA has been taking plenty of abuse but it does need a turbo as you really need to rev the engine to get the most out of it
