Get yourselves to croft people, Paul swift is booked and will be attending with both a mustang and the mk3 focus, they will be on track and available for charity passenger rides.
did not take long as usual with ford scene which is what its all about
looks like blue will be the colour we all see around judging by forecourts and shows around the uk
mountune are getting ready to launch a phase 1 upgrade and many tuners have launched new exhaust systems and other mods including a wider arch kit and alternate alloys
Having driven my new RS 150 miles round country roads today, the number of doors, nor the "plain" interior or lack of wide arches had anything to do with the way it went and the way it went round corners.
I had fun and loved it so couldn't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks
Do the engines need run in or they ready from the off?

Nobody doubts its a great car to drive and it will be a big success but this thread is to get peoples opinions thats all.

If the test drive I received yesterday from my dealer is anything to go by then they are good to go straight out the box. The thing will drift out of a petrol station and go sideways down the road (if you want it to) and then switch back out of drift and go around a roundabout with so much grip and at such a high speed, I was properly impressed.
I do think a lot of the comments are quite funny; slating it for not looking wild enough. A Saph was hardly wild was it? Nor was an S2 RST or FRST but people love them.
The RS has been built to appeal to the market and the market doesn't want cars that look like they have crashed into Halfords. People don't want a wide-arched, three door monster. They want something they can put their kids in easily and use to go to the shops, something that can do the normal stuff as well as the Sunday morning blast, something where they don't feel a total pleb when they pull up outside their gran's house.
Ford are selling them faster than they can make them, it's a 12 month wait for one and it's topping every road test/shoot-out it's taken part in. Job done I'd say.
One thing that is always certain in the Ford scene is that people will moan. Sadly a lot of people can't see past 1996 when the Escort Cossie was killed off. They look back on the 70s/80s/90s with rose-tinted specs and forget that there was actually a lot of other good stuff out there. The reality is that we've never had it so good. The current crop of fast Fords are probably the best ever and it sounds like the line-up is set to get even better judging by the things I've been hearing recently.
As for the slating of some of the opposition, I don't even know where to begin. The blinkers are just hilarious

That looks awful I actually think the forged black wheels suit it perfectly, I'd be very reluctant to change them.
They must have got something right, a years waiting list for them now. People now cancelling orders to buy physical cars in dealers at a premium, anything that keeps the RS brand going is good enough for me. Personally I am pleased they kept it a 5dr and not made it look like a Astra or megane 3dr look fucking awful Imo.

I am suprised the salesman let you " drive " it properly. When I took one of the old Focus RS cars out for a test drive the guy got most upset when i gave it some real stick around corners and some hard accelerating through the gears!!
The way I look at is if you are going to spend overŁ30k on a new car you want to see how well it goes and as long as you dont drive it like a total idiot they should let you go!
The full road test was in Autocar today.
Owing to time constraints they had to test the acceleration in the wet.......and on the optional Pilot Cup tyres.....so it was not really any quicker than the old Mk2 RS to 100mph

Yeah my bad, I didn't actually mean test drive, I meant test passenger ride - the dealer was driving..!
I put my deposit down without seeing a physical car or the press even giving a review as all the pre order folk did last year. But if there was a demo car for me to drive (the car I was in was not a demo car) then yes, I agree you want to give it a proper run

They seemed to like it though - 5-star verdict
There are no optional types offered in the uk.
Glad to hear it's another 5 star, all the reviews I've seen have been pretty much full marks

Maybe it was just an option for the UK press cars then
In the bit about the engine it says its running at near to maximum potential to produce 345 bhp. You can bet there are already plans for much more bhp from more than one tuning company!

From all the positive reaction so far I am sure you will be very happy with it.

I know of 3 tuners with them at moment playing , and mountune update are now available with another power upgrade closer to 400
Just as I thought. I have modified every Ford I have owned and there will always be people who will want their new Focus RS to be different and have more poke than a standard one. Mind you I wonder if Ford will say it invalidates the warranty?

as Jay said mountune is fine with warranty and I prefer their choice of wheels too, but I do like the more in your face mods on these that are starting to come out, already seen ones with scc livery

The mountune updates that are currently available are just bolt on bits like a quick shift bracket, a diff and some samco hoses..not an actual MP*380* upgrade yet. Sign off is still being sought apparently.

Would you be willing to invalidate your warranty ( and possibly your Insurance ) though if you had upgrades done which Ford dont approve? I think that will stop a lot of new owners who have just spent over Ł30k on their new Focus RS having modifications done?

I was under the impression the pilot super sports/cups came with the forged wheel option
Haven't heard anything to put me off this car, yeah the interior isn't that special but it's nice enough... previous fast fords have hardly had amazing interiors compared to standard models

Ive bought loadsof mags that featured the mk3 rs and its come on top/in first place everytime. One mag even liked it better than a BMW M2.

some will and have already as thats the ford scene for you, my mate has had new US spec wider bodypanels fitted and is in the spray booth today for full colour change to his choice, and is booked in later in the month to a very well respected tuner for some power upgrades but in his case he has the money to do it and could not give a hoot about the warranty as he has just sank another 8.5k onto the 35k purchase price without whatever the tuner wants so fair play to him

Your mate is probably not your average person who will be buying one but good luck to him. He wants his to be unique to him and as he can afford it why not!
He doesnt want to go to a show and park next to 20 others which are all the same, his will stand out thats for sure.

Not this car but I'm starting to come round to liking the focus st3 the orange ones and the white ones. There's a couple round my way with the wheels gloss black and the Windows limo black I really like the look. They remind me of the xr3i. Suppose they are the modern xr3i
It's growing on me, but well done Ford for building it, in recent years Ford has got it's power car mojo back after years in duldrums, maybe the recession took it's toll, I'm not even an RS type of guy, but glad they building them again.
Agree, the motor journos I have read all say it is an great car, which can't be bad, funnily enough the major grip for me are the colours offered suck.
Driven a friends mk3 RS nitrous blue.
Looks much better in person
Picked it up from John Grose Ipswich.
Really like the car, grips level are great, big relief from having to deal with the torque steer from the ST. It's not the quickest car in a straight line but I'm sure the engine tweaks will be available soon. Sounds better in person.
Looks like I will be leaving a deposit though will have to wait 8-12 months. Going for frozen white forged wheels. .

My understanding was this option is available for other countries (US for instance have the option) but not for the UK.
The options list is a joke and makes little sense. How come that known cold country of Spain get the option of heated seats and steering wheel and the UK doesn't?
But no cup tyres OEM from Ford UK - although doesn't stop you / your dealer fitting some.

Went out for another blat today - getting used to the way it goes and handles now. I've just got to get my bottle up to be able / want to corner as fast as the car wants to! The faster you go, the more amazing it gets.
