Do the engines need run in or they ready from the off?
The manual suggests going easy for a few hundred miles - but I imagine that's just the new tyres, brakes etc need time to bed in to be safe.
I don't think it especially needs handling with kid gloves if you don't want to. It feels like a strong old beast.
