Default Escort GTi Estate Resto

Hi im neil and i thought i would just share the work im currently doing on my GTi estate with you as its a bit of an unusual one.

ive pretty much had fords the hole time ive been driving, but have mainly been mk4 escorts and an orion.

my RS replica that i built as my first car

anyway onto the matter at hand,
I bought the gti estate in the summer for a bargain price as i was bored of driving a 306 d-turbo and wanted somthing a bit different

when i bought it complete with distorted dodgy repair to the dr wing with runs in the paint and messy cracked front and rear bumpers.

right so i was really pleased with it until a month later the clutch went, i didnt have a garage to do it so set me back £300,
also when underneath it i spotted quite a bit of rust on so the plan was to take it off the road in jan when the mot ran out and sort it all out.

sorry about lack of pictures but this is basicly what ive got don so far

dr sill looking through the floor when i was cutting the rust out

Name: DSC00189.jpg
Views: 336
Size: 61.5 KB

rear end of the dr sill missing

Name: DSC00072.jpg
Views: 268
Size: 83.1 KB

the rust was cut out of the floor and replaced with new metal, restitched to the chassis from above the all welded from above and underneath

Name: DSC00077.jpg
Views: 348
Size: 52.7 KB

Name: DSC00190.jpg
Views: 284

rear of the sill reconstructed

Name: DSC00191.jpg
Views: 286
Size: 78.5 KB

Name: DSC00194.jpg
Views: 283
Size: 88.1 KB

also there was a big hole in the dr door shut so that was cut out replaced and now in filler

Name: DSC00193.jpg
Views: 275
Size: 120.8 KB

ive now started to repair the front bumper with fibreglass and done abit of a cutout which ive never seen before

Name: DSC00076.jpg
Views: 248
Size: 65.3 KB

Name: DSC00082.jpg
Views: 276
Size: 102.3 KB

first bit of filler

Name: DSC00083.jpg
Views: 255
Size: 55.7 KB

also ive now got new wheels

Name: DSC00086.jpg
Views: 303
Size: 80.1 KB

which im now going to be doing white after doing a little trial

Name: DSC00197.jpg
Views: 250
Size: 67.9 KB

Name: DSC00198.jpg
Views: 323
Size: 85.5 KB

Name: DSC00201.jpg
Views: 284
Size: 71.4 KB

Name: DSC00202.jpg
Views: 287
Size: 38.4 KB

ive now got the pas side to take apart and sort then the plan it to give it a fresh coat of red as its really pink in person, possibly bike throttle bodies lowering and im considering putting saff 4x4 bonnet vents in.

hope you all like it

Then got the passenger sideskirt off which I was pleasently suprised by compared to the other side

A bit of an update today, sorry in advance for not many pics as im always covered in underseal at the moment lol,
anyway I got all the welding finished of so rang up mot testers and gave myself a week to finish the car so the first job I undersealed it all this is the only pic of that

Size: 110.5 KB

Then I cleaned on fitted the interior and sprayed the rear arches but havent took a pic yet lol,

the next day I set about putting new fluids in the engine and putting it back together as id had a couple of bits off for cleaning so here it is back together and running

I then started on sorting out the bumper a bit

Looking good! Don't think I've ever seen a mk6 with so much rot! Guess it's a good job my wife managed to write hers off before I had a chance to look behind the skirts

So strange that there's a Youtube video of another red Escort GTi estate with the number plate S68 VDA (one in this thread is S86 VDA). Neither show up on DVLA
