Yeah, um, I know that car and when I knew it it was not worth the scrap metal value.
I also know that I would not drive have it out of the garage without having another bodyshell ready for it to be transplanted into.
I remember doing some work on it, putting my hand on the rear towing eye to lift myself up, and the whole right hand chassis leg falling off. Took about 1 month of welding to make it solid(ish) on the back and the only thing holding the front together was the antiroll bar assembly. I could not get anything welded onto the front crossmember as there was not enough good metal left to weld near.
The only way to fix that shell was to either start from scratch, or reshell it.
Wiring problems galore from the Ford magazine period, seized fuel distribution unit, silicone sealer on the head gasket (that I had to fix when it blew up on the way back from him buying it), the list goes on.
Those that know of Phil Botley, who was doing the FULL restoration of a S1 from bare metal, this car used to belong to his brother. The car in this advert was WORSE than Phils' S1 by a long margin. I also know that the original engine is not in the car (it still sits in my garage getting ready to be a coffee table) and the engine that was in it when Phils' brother sold it belonged originally in Phil's S1.
Anyone who views it, send me some internal panelwork pics of it and I will soon tell you if it has been reshelled, rebuilt or just bodged.
Edit, just looked at the photos quickly and, going from the rear panel still being as I remember it, I would say not repaired properly as it needed a new panel to fix some of the other problems when I was working on it.
