Looks a Jap engine, but not sure which yet, it's not a Nissan SR20.

If you Google "2.2 715HP ESCORT MK1"

Loads of South African results come up, but none of the links work?

My mate was working over there and sent me a few links to mk2 escorts for sale, rust free 1600 sports for under 2k, would be epic to fly over buy one and drive it back to the uk but I'm guessing you'd have to drive up through some dodgy places to get home

England isn't so bad. Stick to the major motorways and you'll get home safe and dry

spoke to the bloke and he has sold the engine, but going to look at the body, it would look so nice with a cossie engine under the bonnet

VERY! I spent time in Johannesburg twice last year and was amazed at how many old escorts were smoking about and clearly being used as daily drivers!

well i been to look at this beast, it has coilovers on the front, lsd toyota back axle, rear defuser, the dash has been butchered, and the engine bay needs a repaint, dash pic didn't come out well, but u can see whats been done. engine bay has been cut to allow the engine to sit way back, maybe a foot back from its normal position.

if i can get the price down a bit, would be perfect for a cossie engine, sat back to help balance the car, seemed nice and clean, engine bay would need everything pulling out, and a respray, but other than that i seemed very nice, he has some spare paint for the engine bay and a spare new pair of front discs, shame about the dash, but it does look ok.

That looks like a Toyota 4age engine to me. or probably (looks the same) 4agze supercharged engine originally. Tuff little motors but must have some trick bits for that HP.

it was a mazda 2.0 stroked and bored out to 2.2, the jap engine scene down here seems big, but then they never got the cossie engine, so they have had to use jap
