Your S will have a MAF sensor and your SE will have a MAP sensor.
You can either just not plug the MAP in (It's located in the inlet manifold) or you can put your inlet manifold from your original engine on the new engine.

Either way the Sigma engines as they are known are terrible!
What mileage did yours fail at?
Got rid of my Focus after spending thousands getting it upto standard. Then in 3 weeks at 92,000miles the engine started knocking and the gearbox blew up.

A 1.7 wouldn't be easy to fit, you'd have to build a custom engine loom and some other wiring modifications to take the Fiesta ECU. not only that it uses a complete different immobolisor system. I looked into it for mine.
I was thinking about fitting a 1.6 Zetec from an Escort into mine (abit slower and old fasiosn but much more reliable) and using a 1.8/2.0 Focus engine loom & ECU but decided it was not worth the hastle.

That is your opinion, no offense by your own admission you say that you had spent thousands getting your particular example up to standard, so by that fact alone suggests your car was duff in the first place!

161K isn't bad going!

As said the earlier ones had MAf sensors and the later ones had TMAP's.

The knocking is typically a sign that the big ends going to go.

There actually not bad engines and are popular among kit car's.
