OK,

Long overdue update. As some of you will know i have been having some running problems with a missfire on boost. I have replaced just about everything working from the cheapest upwards.

All the usual things have been done,
Sensors
Dist Cap
Rotor Arm
Plugs
Leads
Coil
Ect Ect

After checking the Voltages at the ECU everything seemed fine so i removed the rear bumper to get into the Fuel pump wiring and check everything out there. What i found was not pretty and i was very lucky not to have wrecked another engine.

I cut the plug out and cut back the wires to find clean cable and soldered in some fresh wire and gave the car a blast. No change missfire still there.

I decided that i would order up a Hi-Flow fuel pump and fit that just to eliminate the pump as well.
Ordered it up last week and on Thurs night decided to get the car up in the air and soak the tank strap bolts ready for removal.

This is what i found,

Braided hose from the pump to the filter indicating that it already has an uprated pump fitted

Decided that i would go ahead and remove the filter and tank anyway and replace the pump as it has been paid for.

Filter looks like its not been changed for a long time so fingers crossed it might be the problem.

Dropped the tank down and drained out the 1/2 tank of fuel

Removed the pump and found it was a 033 which is good as ive ordered up a 023 so i am upgrading
pump is wraped in foam like stuff but it fell apart while i was removing it, anyone know what its there for? i'm guessing for noise but not 100% sure

hopefully the new bits tomorrow will fix it

Nice to see your progressing, hope you get it all sorted out asap.
My car is in the bodyshop justnow getting a tidy up as we speak, i was wandering if i could pop round sometime and chat about that engine i was needing a hand with, as i'll be ready to take the head off etc... quite soon.

Geesh! You been standing about that Capri's too long........I thought it be running by now!! lol!

I'd hope that that will have it sorted, esp after the Chop marlarky with the filter & tank.

If your still wanting shot of the Escort, my m8 is looking for one.....! Heading up to Sunnyhill over the weekend at some point to test drive one.

Robin / Martin,

Took it out last weekend just after i got home from the Capri Club day and no change, missfire is still there

Spoke to Ahmed this week so have some odds and ends coming from him and also pushing the sparkie to get my loom done so hopefully this will sort it out

Robin,

I have been told by Ahmed that once its running right i will like it (alot) so i need to keep it untill then at least. Someone else tried to get me to part with it tonight as well you know who you are

Will keep the post updated as things progress

Cheers.

Bloody eck! Fingers crossed for your next ideas to sort it. If you cant find anything external can valve springs not cause misses? You better have done that top end right!

Paul,

Did you have to drill the hole for that yourself? I take it you have to aeroquip that up to the filter then............. Joy

Thank Łuck!!!!!

New board ect fitted and no sign of a missfire

Looks like it might have been the chip all along.

Car is only boosting to 14psi and dropping back to around 10 so i think i need to wind up the actuator a bit

Looks like i will have to MOT it now.

The idle is still a little up and down but there is no sign of the stutter it used to have. I'm putting that down to the plug gaps as they have been gapped all over the place to try and get the thing to run right. Will spend a bit of time on it at the weekend and get them gapped properly again.

If theres anything i can do to help with yours just shout. I have odds and ends of sensors kicking around if needed

Paul,

If i thought there was even a chance of them fitting then id have them on but at the moment the only non original pannel on the car is the N/S door so i dont want to be cutting away the arches and stuff.

Plans for it at the moment are to bleed the brakes to try and get some pedal back and get a decent head unit in it.
