S2 project, has the curse ended??
In 2003 I turned 18 and found that an rst wasnt out of reach and after finding the right car up for sale, me and my mate screech (xrcrazy) went to pick it up, after I paid for it (£1750) we headed for home, creaming his 3i all the way .
After a trouble free couple of months things started to go drastically wrong………
1st the engine went pop
2nd the turbo went pop
3rd the replacement engine went pop
4th the gearbox went, yes you’ve guessed it POP
5th the 2nd gearbox went pop
6th then finally yet another engine died, this time after a week of slow starting and crap performance, I pulled off my drive and the engine died and wouldn’t turn over, it had seized solid.
At this point I was earning very little and so decided to pull the engine out and save, 6months later and still poor one of my mates who had recently rolled his RST made me an offer and off he went with his new shell
He then fitted his engine he had kept from his original car, had it for two months and sold it to one of my other friends. Then it started again…….
1st he put it in the wrong gear off a roundabout at speed and mullered the head
2nd the turbo bearings went
3rd 1 piston had melted, all the others were cracked!
I know what your thinking, this cars cursed glad its not mine and bet its still knackered. Well you`d be wrong……
The car at present is on its way back into my life, yes i`m mad enough to buy it back, mainly cos it was my first car and has sum how got under my skin, I need it
Its current mechanical condition is brilliant, it has a high spec engine:
220Bhp engine spec:
Ported/polished head
Larger stainless inlet valves
Kent cam
Vernier pulley
Cometic steel multilayer headgasket
Hybrid stage 3 turbo with 360 bearing, 17psi.
Pace double sized intercooler
3” stainless scorpion zorst
Low comp forged pistons 1mm oversize
Steel H section conrods
ARP bolts
Bottom end balance
Lightened flywheel
New gear linkage, fitted with quickshift
Paddle clutch
Uprated gearbox bearings
New gear set
Quaiffe ATB
Full poly bushed
Koni adjustable suspension
Uprated discs and pads
Hopefully the engine should see me hit just shy of 300Bhp when I get round to sticking it on MBE management.It shouldn’t break either as its been fine for the last year and was built by Derek at DS motorsport, responsible for probably the fastest road going RS200.
However the bodywork does need some attention, theres sum tin worm in the engine bay, rust around sunroof and boot hinges,needs a new front panel and a general tidy and respray.

Don’t expect an update for a while as im workin 13 hour shifts six days a week to fund it!!! And when im not workin im sleepin, hope I can find time to do the car! And so it begins hopefully not as badly as the first time around!

nice car mate pity bout its history with you mine is just the same! and mine is only an XR3i. i had mine a week before it killed the bottom end so i had it done ran it in and it killed the big ends again! so i had it done yet again and now (fingers crossed) its fine for a while. im restoring the bodywork now though cos its not the one owner minter that i believed it to be it was a one bodger from new crash damaged nail!!! but its on the road to mintsville now so it'll get there eh! i work 12 hr nights so im in the same boat really. anyway nuff ramblin! keep up the good work!

What a story! certianly sounds cursed to me! but it's a white S2, so you gotta keep it Like the oldskool rs wheels, capri wheels aint they? Pretty rare.
Are you going to keep the clear rear lights, badboy bonnet etc? Not really my taste, but i suppose it has it's good points for airflow to the cooler

Im keepin the rear lights, the wheels will probably go, cos i`d prefer escort cossie wheels instead. That bonnet will go cos ive got a bad boy fibreglass bonnet to replace it that came with the car, got to keep the way it looks cos i did all of the styling when i had it he jus added the wheels n engine. I intend to add a few other bits n bobs to the styling, dnt worry it wont get stupid bodykits or anything jus little subtle touches to make it stand out, bt i aint gonna give to much away cos its gonna take me ages to finish and i dnt want any1 beating me to my ideas!
I dnt even know what size the wheels are, wasnt interested, know they all have brand new proxes tyres on though.
