Rs2000 mk5 project , track day car, back on the road
#43
ive heard that the rs2000 engine is a reincarnation of the old 2.0 twin cam 8v engine, which was basically a paperweight, just ford added 8 more valves to the same engines head for the rs2000,
the same website told me to totally avoid the rs 2000 engines for my fiesta conversions for that reason,
nice track contorl arms you have there mate, and brakes look awsome

Hi dan
the engine isn't being moded all it's just having is a exhaust and filter thats my lot
the slicks/handling/brakes will make up for the power

heres a good tip for you mate.
ditch the sunroof, they are heavy and because they are at the highest point they dont do the handling any good, just cover with thin plate or carbon fibre sheet.
also you'll probably need spherical top mounts, the mk5 runs no caster at all which is just about ok with 15" wheels but with big wheels its a pig to keep in a straight line.
you need to add caster.
the mk6 has caster added as standard!
liking the project tho its sweet.
i have a k and n kit for one of these if you need one.

Hi Mate
I know what you mean about the roof mate , i know they are heavy
these front arms can do castor and camber , if i want and more castor i can always use the centric top mounts ,
it's just going to be a bit of fun as a second track car for me and lee
cheers marco

I read once on a website that the Cosworth YB engine is just an old 1970's Cortina lump with a 16 valve head fitted, best avoid them as they are bound to be shite
The RS2000 I4 engine makes 150 bhp out of the box without the aggro of a turbo, EASILY uprated to 2.3 litres for not too many pennies and has plenty of tuning scope.

it's basically true the cosworth yb engine is pinto based except for steel crank, steel rods, forged pistons , fly wheel , thicker block , twin cam 16 v
it's pinto based

Hi lads
thanks for your comments i haven't driven it yet
i took it for a spin around the block the back end seemed ok but it's hard to tell on the road i need a track day out in it to see whats it really like
i couldn't feel any differance with the 17's on it to be honest as the car is a lot lighter so i don't think it's struggerling to pull the 17's
i don't want it to understeer if i can help it .... i don't mind a bit of oversteer thats why im keeping the back pretty hard
i'll be using the Bilstein tarmac fronts 500/200 with 750 pound spings it should be intresting to say the least ..lol..

Hi paul
they were of a 2wd saff all et 33 but these seem to be the ford motorsport rl7 as they use ford nut's (not aftermarket)and they are ingraved Ford motorsport .
One had a few cracks on the spokes but i got my mate to sort that out , it's sound now

Hi Rich
I don't know who will have a muti plug bud you might be better of asking a few breakers
I have come to a halt with the car as i have blown the turbo on the cossie and i'm a bit skint at the min
i'll be back on the case later in the yr and hopefully have it ready for next yr

Mark - fabulous video! I guess it is an F2 spec car!
It's certainly an RS2000, as it has an I4:
Nice looking exhaust manifold too! I'm pleased to see it's using KW coilovers too, as that's what I have, and was a little concerned they wouldn't be a patch on tarmac spec bilsteins (Marco) or Proflex, as are on many F2 cars! They should do me for a while though
Marco, have you had a look into any F2 components mate? Especially one of their rear beams!?
Interesting to see the eccentric top mounts in the pic are setup for being furtherest inwards..
