MK3.5 1.1 -> FRST Replica Project - Update 6/8/08 Breaking

Time for another update - now a bit further on but not as far as i'd like to be unfortunatley. Due to being pissed around by a company about alloys - more to follow on that.
Chuffed with this bit. I'd always planned to do something to tidy up the boot (i carry a fair bit of tools/neccessities with me incase of breakdowns etc) and also add rear headrests to add my own touch to the interior - plus i'd not seen it done often before.
So i got onto ebay and purchased:
Boot build carpet - pretty good stuff which was thick and a nice black colour.
Spray adhesive.
A luggage net off a rover (the horror!)
These fancy velcro straps and a few brackets etc.
Had a spare seat back (the metal parts) left from my original crappy interior so i set about it and lined up all the bits to encorporate everything.
First of all, washed the seat backs and then drilled the holes for brackets and straps to go through:
Note holes for headrests.
Then set about putting the carpet on:
Hooks for luggage net.
Holes for brakcets etc.
First side carpeted and trail fitted - comparison against old and new:
Both sides done:
The red box is a mini tool kit - going to spray or cover it black too, to match, and then velcro it to the boot floor so it doesn't move about.
Next do to was the rear headrests. From before you saw the holes were already drilled to accept the prongs into the metal seat backs. Only thing left was to make holes in the FRST rear seats , thankfully i measured them up correctly and there are no holes where there shouldn't be. The headrests will be re-trimmed to match later this week once pay day comes round. Theres a little bit of play in them but nothing a few brackets and expanding foam won't sort.
Note the recaro badges
Next when there was a bit of good weather i got the left side of the kit on. Went on pretty well, a few gaps round the top of the kit but it couldn't be helped as the kit had been sitting under my stairs for about a year and had bent with the heat . Also the sealant leaked over the kit near the sill/front wing so im going to paint over it when i get the chance too.
Got some cool RS stainless steel sills too:
Going to buy some black rivets, cut the legs off them and glue the heads into the holes in the sideskirts so it looks like a factory job.
And finally - ordered my rims about a month ago from edworthys.co.uk.
I specifically ordered 15" x 6.5" with ET37, phoned up to confirm this and also sent a note with the payment too, confirming what i wanted. Also paid for 48hour delivery - alloys came 12 days later, wrong fucking offset and width Company now claims OZ doesn't make the alloys in 6.5" width (bullshit) and after phoning back no less than 8 times to sort a refund they aren't phoning back - so im cancelling the credit card payment and they can come and collect the wheels if they want them.
Anyways here pics of the wheels:
ALso got some Yoko's on order.

Rab - remember cossie rims are et40, and they rubbed on the front suspesnion - requiring a 5mm spacer. I specifically order et37's to i wouldn't have to use spacers. These alloys would fit with spacers but its the fact i ordered them so they wouldn't be required

Rab - nah not yet, need to get my money back from these cowboys first - letter is in the post to my credit card company as we speak. Just a matter of time now, but there's no way i'l have the new ones on by the time of the PF meet.
Mr Sam - Cheers, seems so different from what it started like but i still feel ive got AGES to go with it

Well today the rain kept off so i decided to have a go at buffing up my kit - its been on a while but i hadn't bothered rubbing it down as to be honest i couldn't be arsed until now
Anyway, instead of using G3 i started off the Autogylm paint work renovator and it did the job nicely - didn't even have to use G3.
Very very pleased with the results
Comparison - before (foreground) and after (background)
Next i have to put the other half of the kit on - ran out of adhesive Then ordering another set of wheels, the wrong ones that were delivered are finally being collected after 2 months of pissing about
Cheers

Cheers - turns out OZ don't even make the Ultraleggeras in the size i need so the hunt is on for another set - ive got it down to a "few" wheels to decide from : https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...136&highlight=
Bought another set of door handles to colour code - might do these over the xmas holidays if i can get my garage warm enough - i think i'll buy a heater.
Also bought a mk5 Fiesta Aerial, and about to buy some Rainbow speakers.
Update will be soon hopefully.

Cheers but they'll be the wrong colour - if worst comes to the worst i'll just wait until i buy a rotten FRST and take the interior too!
Bit of an update today:
Rainbow speakers on order (Cheers Bassboy )
Mirrors now colour coded (going to do the door handles over xmas too.)
Mk5 Fiesta aerial fitted.
No pics at the moment but they will be up soon

About time for a decent update:
Got her taxed for another 6 months and insured for the next year - talk about breaking the bank though
Back to the important stuff....
Pics of Mk5 Aerial fitted and colour coded mirrors:
Also got some new co-ax's for christmas from my mum - the standard ones were shagged after i decided to attack them with a screw driver:
Should fit just snuggly under the standard speaker grilles - cheers to Bassboy for the advice and the good deal on them I've yet to fit them, waiting for an adapter plate and leads to arrive.
Tonight I bought another set of FRST recaros off Davey's (vrooom pttsshh's) mate for a bargin 50 quid. Its strange though as the piping is much better than my current recaros but the bolters are far worse - wonder what causes them to collapse but then the piping to still be fine?!
Anyway gave them a hoover and a quick shampoo - spot the difference:
Before pics:
Spot the difference :
Main reason i bought the seats was to get the headrests off them for this:
Finally got a set of clear indicator bulbs for the front - cleans up the cluster i bit:
More to come very soon

Wicked little project...
Am doing the same myself, but a few different touches...
How did you put the skirts on, did you bond them on or use the original fixing bolts and drill the wholes into the arches.???
I wasnt sure on the rear headsrests in when the leather ones were there, but now you got the material ones, it dont actually look too bad.
ill be keeping a close eye on this project from now on.
