A wee update ..... as i was speaking to Alan (bodyshop owner) he was telling me about all the little jobs that need doing, which you dont really see, but he pointed out to me. It all adds up to a FRST that should last another 16 years
The new boot floor .....
The new front .....

lol .... Steven RW .... its the grey beastie im copying for power, so with a lighter and more aerodynamic car i would pass you
Anyway, for my birthday i thought i would pop round and see how my car is, here is the latest update on my FRST restoration .....
some smoothing of joins, the passenger side is nearly done ......
all new boot latching panel .......
the new sill ......
smooth door (something original!!!....lol) ......
But not all good news, rot found in driver footwell, actually it wasnt holes but it would come back to haunt me, so its gone (passenger side also done) ......
My poor dash with Defi boost gauge still fitted ..... oops!

Sorry for lack of updates, i have been stuck in the North Sea
Anyway, popped by the bodyshop .....
Driver side nearly done .....
The new chassis legs and complete new front end will be going on .....
So it really will be a new FRST
With my new engine going in, i will have some parts for sale. Anyone wanting a 148,000 mile T2 turbo ?

yes i keep telling Greg this but he's not bothered because he's quite old really and drives rather sensibly, rarely breaking 55-60mph if he's lucky.
a cossie would be wasted on him really

I should have known Chopper would have his say he has nothing to say about working offshore, as being a mud engineer he does feck all .... maybe play with his kiddies chemistry set
As for getting a cossie, wait until the FRST is finished.

Have to agree with all the good comments mate, big respect to you for sticking with ur car and getting the job done correctly!!!!. Its a fascinating post, keep the pics coming.....i bet some fiesta owners dare not look to hard at their cars after seeing this. from the first picture of you car, its beyond belief what hidden rot lurks in a car. WELL DONE TO YOU MATE

i dont mean to be harsh mate, but for what you are spending on that basically condemmed shell, would it not be better to get a clean base model shell and just replace the small amount of welding that it will need, then lobb all your bits into the new shell,
looks like whoever is doing the work knows what he is doing, have you any plans to get it gigged after just incace its twisted the shell with all that removed from it,

Im doing this to keep it a genuine RS. If i went and got a 1.1 shell, it will then lose its true RS identity i.e the shell would not have the specified numbers to be an RS.
Its on a jig now and was when they removed the front. No need to be jigged with all the work on the back as it was not structural parts that were getting replaced, just panels.

Picked up my old engine, it fits nicely in a mk4 Fiesta run about's boot....
One well looked after, high mileage CVH....
Gearbox to be sent to CTS....
the legendary 148,000 mile T2 turbo, still in prefect working order....

Twins....
Shot peened crank (cheers AndyR)
H section rods
low comp pistons
all balanced and lightened
hybrid T3 (cheers AndyR)
usual stage3 type head
pro-alloy front mount intercooler
still not sure on injectors with using Ford eec-iv managment, unsure how good beige 701's really are, need to investigate other types.
I would like about 190 @ wheels, that should be plenty for a wee FRST to scare some bigger cars
