That's AWESOME

Would the engine builder reveal all the spec?

I'm currently having built a zetec with a very similiar spec. I'd love to know the spec of his, especially cam duration.

Like the angled inlet manifold too.

He's not letting on at all much, Cams i know are wild and run 32mm oversize tappets, 48mm T/B's, and all the normal stuff?

Inlet is a custom job

Oversize tappets - having to use the same here. Expensive stuff bearing in mind the head has to be modded to accept them too.

A few things I'd really like to know, and I would really appreciate it if he could reveal:

Is he using standard 2-piece valves?

What CR is he running?

In his opinion, what is the safe maximum rpm for a standard crank, with forged rods and pistons in a fully balanced engine. Standard crank grind (ie. no regrind needed) if it makes a difference

We're using the standard one on mine, thinking it'd be ok for up to 8500rpm. We plan to use 1-piece S/S valves, and our CR is planned at 11.75:1.

Sorry for all the questions, but any answers would be great.

Ralph.

I know it has S/S oversize valves
13:1 compression
He's also got a standard crank that has just been balanced and he said it will be save for 9k rpm's.
Its the std exhaust manifold that is the problem with the zetec's, even the aftermarket ones are crap, he has a custom jobby.

Thanks v. much for the info mate.

Could you ask him how much his exhaust manifold cost? And whether he'd be interested on getting another sourced / made?

The only one looking viable for my engine is the Dunnell one, which looks a similiar design, but is very expensive... well over Ł500!

Muchos gracias mate

that inlet is ridiculouse,
how can it possibly need 8 injectors,
must have an interesting flow pattern by the time the fuel is in the head, surely the fuel could spill???

Usually, the second injectors (the ones far away from the valve) will only open at WOT and at high rpm. When this two conditions are met, airflow is really high and the sprayed fuel outside the trumpet will be sucked in with no problem.

Injecting fuel far away from the valve will cold down ACT's better and the air mixture will be more homogeneous which will help since problems can arise (fuel droping out of suspension) when loads of fuel is injected.

All F1 engines have injectors like this, and the "cloud" made by the spray on them is massive! No fuel spills out the trumpet.

Actually there is also other reason:
- When the injector near the inlet valve is too big, it will hurt low airflow mix (fuel will drop out of suspension and the injector injects too much fuel at low ms openings). Use smaller injectors and get another set far away to only help high rpm fueling.

It all dependes were the extra set of 4 injectors are placed on the inlet. You can have 2 injectors spraying at the same time right at the back of the inlet valve(s), but this would only be aceptable if the injectores were really small and top-end will hurt on the mix due to the two injectors not flowing enough.

Only if you go above 500cc or so that you'll start having problems with low airflow speed and small injector cycles.
Ok, this is just a rule from where to start because there's alot more involved than just saying "500cc is the max for any kind of inlet manifold design".

This aplies to any engine, NA or turbo charged/supercharged.

As almost everything in the engine has been modified andrew didn't want to take any risks with the standard oil pump and sump set up so he's going to make this lot fit

He redid the clock as he wasn't happy with the las setup

Just been told he's sorted everything out and the dry sump will fit without any cutting of the inner wing.

He wants me to say thank you to Ryan @ UK car looms for the help with the loom he wanted

A little update the sump, Andrew words not mine, i just did a copy paste job

The kits from pace and titan were never made for FWD cars but i thought to myself i need one and have to make it fit

The sump fits but a modification to the old oil pump is needed, almost all the internals have been taken out as is will no longer provide the pressure. as you can see the new pump is meant to bolt the back of the sump but the drive shaft will hit it so it has to be moved to the front.

The problem with it been at the front is you need a Escort alternator and bracket but its still to high to clear the fitting of the pump so i've made a bracket to move it up 50mm and out 25mm, doing this i've had to modify the water pump as you can see, this was done in preparation for the sump when i fitted the electrical water pump as the stage 3 kit you get a water pump pulley kit that will not fit a FWD engine bay

I've just got to make and weld a bracket to the sump to lower the pump and make it adjustable for the belt and give a bit more clearance for the feed pipes and get a longer bit to drive the pump, pipe work and fitting kit for that, a few modifications to the the engine bay to give a little more clearance for the pump pulley

The set up

The new bracket that i welded to the sump

The new pulley thats been shortened for clearance

Never feels good to cut up a Titan sump, needs must as my manifold hit it before and now it doesn't

Just got to weld up the hole and make sure the flow of oil runs to the pick up pipes

Next thing i have to sort out is pipe work and oil cooling

Nice coil on plug and N/A 8 injector set up

Top job Ryan and thanks again

Love the wheels, what size/width/tyre and offset are they?

Thinking of those for my MK3....... you get any rubbing issues with them?
