RST Re-Shell Question
Hi all,
I've just joined, but a long time lurker. I used to belong to the RSOC a few years back.
I am contemplating buying a "re-shell" project. The seller has the correct V5 and the VIN Tags.
It comes with most of the required parts, and a donor shell.
My question is - Do I simply put the "tags" onto the donor shell. Is that all that is required legally ?
Many Thanks in advance
Mark

No, thats illegal. Slapping RST tags inside a bonus shell doesn't make an RST. Just like slapping Rolls Royce tags in a Metro doesn't make it an RR.
People take the risk, and equally I'm sure theres plenty of 80's/90's Fords out there that people own who believe they are truely genuine Cossies/RSTs/whatever that are actually lesser models.
Really depends if you want to be on the right side of the law and also how much you really care about it saying RST on paper.

Hi Haz,
Thanks for the speedy reply
So what is the legal way to do it if the original shell is beyond repair ?
In the old days it used to be about the "percentage" of the parts from the donor car.

**** EDIT Just found the legal answer on the DVLA Site, Thanks again Haz

You cant put the identity of one shell to other, if the rs shell is beyond repair id strip the shell of any good bits and scrap it and go looking for a genuine shell that needs all the bits you have, i know thats easier said than done. Or you could make an RS Turbo replica with the donor shell but you'd need keep original vin etc of the donor shell and it will never be a genuine RS..
But no i wouldn't change identity of the shell.
