Hi Guys
I have a Mk5 Escort which im doing a full resto on soon has cosowrth kit fitted and bought with no engine. I have been looking at the 2.0 Zetec Black Top and adding a turbo to it.
What gearbox would be best for 300hp? Also any other tips of pointers would be great. Also is there any other engine anyone could suggest?
Any help is greatly appreciated - Thanks

Mtx75 is pretty much your only choice. They come in cable and hydraulic clutches. The 130ps spec 1.8 Zetec mk5 would have been a cable mtx75. The ultimate Mtx75 was fitted to the Focus Rs and it came with a Lsd as standard.
Now I do love a Zetec. And I love them even more with a blower on but they are getting slim pickings. To do it properly will cost plenty.
The st220 engine would sound great have plenty of torque and power and cost way less.
I would start with what sort of power you want and what coin you have to through at it ?

Thanks for that. I prefer turbo motors V6 does sound great but are usually big and lazy not to mention heavy. Would that go in a Mk5 Escort doesn't look much room in a Mondeo engine bay with them in?
I have found a couple of Black tops nd was thinking of using 86mm VXR pistons and some forged rods with uprated bolts lowering compression and increasing to 2.1 if im right.
Can also use a GT28 or Subaru TD04 or TD05 turbo which are not bank breaking units.

The v6 engine isn't much heavier than a zetec and has even been put in a fiesta. But I can respect wanting a blown zetec as its what I am into.
Td04 is a nice little turbo and doesn't cost s lot. A genuine Gt28 would be different.
Don't the vauxhall pistons give a very low cr, wouldn't be my choice.
