AT LAST
Its been a absolute mission the last few months.
The Nodiz ecu was sent back twice for testing before they acknowledged the intermittent fault.
They (Motorsport Electronics) then supplied a wiring loom as they thought his wiring had caused the fault.
Three weeks of head scratching later there loom was wired incorrectly at the ecu connector.
Got it running last Saturday and then crunching going into second gear (rebuilt box with lsd done less than 300 miles)
but the clutch failure and the drive home had killed it.
New second gear synchros this week and finally running today 😁😁😁😁
carbs balanced and going well.

First off, outstanding car you got there! Thinking about an ST170 conversion myself and was just wondering which method you guys used for the alternator and wrong direction water pump rotation?

The water pump is fitted with a reverse direction impeller and he now used a alternator from car builder solutions.

So a few weeks ago the wheel alignment was done at https://m.facebook.com/andrewlamontmotorsport/
and now it’s putting the power down better..
Then onto https://en-gb.facebook.com/SitechRacing.co.uk/ to check fuelling.
But unfortunately another set back. Then clearance between the engine mount and the timing belt tensioner was not enough and the two touched with catastrophic failure.
New engine is nearly in now with more clearance and a stiffer mount. Hopefully running in a few days.
I have to admire his resilience. When it goes wrong he just gets the tools out and gets on with it. I would go to the pub and sulk.

He is convinced it does but he’ll get it back on the dyno and compare graghs allbeit with the previous engine.
It really struggles for grip now in the wet, don’t think the NS2R tyres help but it breaks traction in fourth gear!,

So the latest saga was fixed last night.
After getting the engine in and running he dropped the coolant to replace with anti freeze, the next day it was getting hot and the header tank was angry!
This was traced to the water pump impeller that was spinning on the shaft. It has been on and of before and the last time some loctite retainer was added to make sure........
This time it’s got a grub screw into the shaft (not easy as it’s rather hard material) the inside bore of the impeller was centre punched and loctite retainer. The grub screw is in with loctite and is below flush with the sides of the hole caulked over.
Hopefully that’s all the problems out the way and he can continue annoying Fiesta ST 180s!

It’s been fault free for about 3 weeks now other than the exhaust falling off so he’ll make a full new system during the winter.
It passed another MOT with no advisories. And the seats have been upgraded.

So its in the garage for the winter and onwards with the process of continuous improvement. The front was stripped of wax oil last year but he ran out of time to finish it. A new exhaust will be made too after the current one fell off on a track day at Knockhill.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Lovely build this
Any more pics of how your son achieved the bends etc when doing the bonnet cut out?
I need to do something very similar with mine, I'm currently using a bonnet raiser kit.
Love the OEM finish you've achieved with yours!

So the seemingly never ending task off removing waxoil is over and we can now see a noticeable difference.
Next task is to turn this box of bits into an exhaust

So it would appear that exhaust fabrication is something else he can do.

Exhaust is nearly complete just need heat wrapped.
The latest bit of fabrication is another engine mount that picks up on the bell housing bolts and goes to the steering rack mount. Loosely based on what group 2 Fiestas had.

A bit of stop faster look modifications to the brake discs today.
I was given this rotary table a few weeks ago and it was put to good use on our pillar drill. Obviously can only take very small cuts You can just see the sharpie pen trial cuts.
First cut
Finished

With lockdown boredom kicking in a few other jobs have been completed this week.
He was never happy with the way the seat was mounted (too high) so the runners were ditched to lower it 20mm ish
Trial fit
The buddy club ( Honda tuner?) gear knob his brother donated from his Integra which suits the interior well.
AND THIS ABSOLUTELY VITAL TASK😂😂. He compared it to my metal handbrake button on my S2 Moving the wiper motor from the engine bay to inside the car for a tidier bay
Nearly there just a little tweak on the linkage

Another job done today.
The bushes on the pedal to servo bar were shot with nearly 0.5mm of play.
We have a Myford lathe in the workshed that had become invaluable for bespoke parts.
The bush was give 0.05 clearance a bit less waggle than the worn one with 0.5
Finished
And fitted
The new splash guards for the brake upgrade on his daily.... bigger than the Fiesta wheels

So a busy car weekend here. Son no1 fitted new seats to his Integra. Son no2 fitted Audi RS3 brakes to his daily and finally swapped the head on the Fiesta.
This was meant to be completed at the end of March but the head was stuck in the the machine shop. It had a 1mm skim, 3 angle valve seats was ported and fitted with piper 285 cams.
It goes really well now 😳😳
He’s a Honda nerd
Seats are excellent
These fill the wheels a little better
Swapping the big bits is easy enough
All ready to go
First time I’ve seen a cam being timed. Simple enough but time consuming.
