as said previously I was going to strip the underside and fit new tank and powder coat the running gear and under seal in red buzz weld W.A.R., but decided the engine would be back before I would finish it , so ive wiped it down and will do it over winter as its clean and solid .

Well i've started to collect the bits for a future escort project, I just miss my 90 spec xr3i rs turbo rep. With the prices the way they are and the fact I need a LHD importing a bonus or the like and putting everything on it seems the best way to go.

While you have the engine out if its not too much trouble could you measure in the engine bay between both chassis legs as I'm looking into engine swaps and want to see what space I have to work with, i've seen vag 1.8t 20v's fitted before.

Keep up the good work, its your car thats one of the reasons I want another (even if unfortunately it will be a rep and not a genuine rst)

Thanks mate, that will help out loads. Now I've just got to go measuring with a tape measure to see if the engine will fit.

Keep up the good work with yours!

well had a change of heart Saturday morning .. put the order in with buzz weld for x4 stage 1 W.A.R Shultz in RAL3002 (red) and an FX11 Gun ..I then ordered a new fuel tank and some rear ARB shackles and a set of adjustable tie rod ends and some camber bolts for the rear ..then I decided to strip all the underside ready for it all landing.. today I dropped gear off at the powder coaters. this week ill prep all the underside ready to under seal , I also cleaned my steering rack up .

Was the tank expensive?

I remember years ago puncturing mine going over a speed bump outside my old school and the hot exhaust clamp put two nice holes in it.

I just fitted a new tank to mine. Got it from car parts express. All good but the hose clip that is in between the sender hole and the fill hole as seen in your picture has no fixing on the non ford tank. I attached mine with adhesive and it’s fine.

Did you remove the rear compensator brackets before coating as I assume they will not be required now or just left them in place ?

today the delivery of the buzz weld W.A.R arrived , so I made a trip up to chirk auto paints and bought the strato silver for the new fuel tank and a roll of masking paper then I started stripping the last bits off the underside and removed the 30 year old fuel / brake line clips.. I managed a good 30mins on the wire wheel but forgot to take pics ,,hoping to get it all cleaned and prepped for under sealing Saturday.

Wow Matt you really don't hang around. I got mine back from paint December and haven't made as much progress in 3 months as you have in the past 3 weeks!

I have however managed to get hold of the Mipa paint for mine today and ordered all new headlights, full bearings, bottom arms, track rod ends and tie bar links for the underside rebuild so motivation is back on. I have tried to find the clips and screws for the wheel arch liners but god knows where they are in the pile of "spares" i have. Where you get yours from and do you have any pictures of the plastic clips they go into within the inner arch. If you could send a picture of the screws and fixings where you can for the washer bottle aswell please it might help me identify them in the pile i have here.

Thanks pal and keep up the good work...
