Default 85 XR2 engine running rich?

Getting a few jobs done on the XR now its back and wondered if anyone can advise how to turn down the fuel mix as its running rich and leaves a petrol smell when running. Would have posted in an engine section but cant seem to find one?!

Definitely no fuel leak near carb etc.

An Xr2 has a mechanical fuel pump if I remember rightly, any leaks etc.

There's a great carb specialist near me but really you need a carb specialist or refurb the carb yourself.

The carb will have a screw on the body somewhere, iirc turning it inwards weakens/leans.

It could be a allen key, its years since I've touched one, could easily spot it in front of me.

Ideally you wanna set it on a co machine.

Also make sure the air filter is clean too, before tweaking the carb.

Should be a mixture screw around the back if it's still on the old Weber, you'll need to prize out the cover cap (rare if it's still got it!) and use an Alan key to adjust, best off with a gas analyser.

Thanks for the replies. There's no leaks at the carb it's just out the back end. I'll run it up to my lad who knows wot he's doing and has an emissions tester to be safe. I helped to finish off a metro by adjusting it too much once!
