Cheers mate i not really got any plan to sell but sometimes seems a shame for it to sit like that when someone could be restoring it. Out of interest tho what do you think a project like it would be worth thanks for the build number thing mine is 1022 and ive really owned since 18/04/2003 omg

I always look at something to see what It would break for.
Just by the pics as I can't see what condition the trim is in and the usual rust suspect area's, I would say Ł3k
If it has all its history and low owner and mileage Ł3k+
A couple of years ago, I went all the way up to Scotland to buy one that was 2 owners from new and 45k, the old man parked it up in one of his barns for 10 years for his son to have when he was old enough to drive, but the barn didn't have a concrete floor and she rotted right out. She looked mint in the photos but when I got up there you could put your hand through the floor and when I tried jacking it up she broke her back and kinked the roof. I paid Ł1600 for it about 3 years ago.

Trip to the scrappy!

The trim in it was mint, I ended up selling the ID and engine to a guy that had a brand new shell that I had tried buying from him after Surface Processing Ltd fucked one of my 280's up. He wouldn't sell it so I sold him the ID. I found another brand new shell that I ended up buying, its amazing when you start looking at how many things people do have stored and tucked away. I think I found 5 shells all in all but some wanted stupid money for them.

I was going to xpack the new shell but I'm keeping it just in case anything happens to any of my others, again it's another investment.

Done the last bits that I can with the wire wheel today.
Tomorrow will be all go with the sand blaster, the main parts are the back of the front panel which I couldn't get to with the angle grinder and some tricky parts on the front and also the headlight bowls.
I will also blast any rusty bits that the wire wheel didn't clean and then blast all seams.

By the weekend I want the couple of bits of welding done and the front end in primer, I might even give her a coat of 2k white as a base coat.

Good work its coming along nicely. Have a Capri myself that I need to get around to finishing, it's a basic 1.6 laser that iv had for 13 years my first car, my plan is to make it into a Capri rs500, the way ford would have built it, with all genuine parts. I have the parts to do it just need the time.

Cheers Lee, my mate Ady done that to one of his 2.8i after his 2wd Cosworth got written off. He put everything in the Capri and it was a proper weapon. He use to go through halfshafts though and ended up having to upgrade them. Your right about how ford should have done it as it drove lovely, especially with the T5 box.

My shell was dipped and e coated and even on the first day when I got it back in the workshop I noticed there were bubbles under the e coat which when you popped them liquid ran out. I should have took it back straight away.
The shell was stored in my mates heated workshop until he was ready to start work on it. (Stored for 4 months I think)
I was working away from home at the time and the week that It was going to be started I had a call from him to come back and view the shell.
In 4 months it had rusted inside all the chassis rails, along all seams and even in places were there wasn't any rust to start with.
I took it back to Adrian at SPL for him to put it right and to re dip it in good faith and he wouldn't do it, he said it was acid seep, even though inside the chassis rails were filled with sediment which hadn't been washed out and the e coat was just on top of the sediment and you could scrape that away and expose all the rust! When he wouldn't redip it I took legal advise and had an
independent auto engineers report done on the shell which they condemned it. I went back to SPL and he basically told me to fuck off!
Good customer service eh, especially after you've just spent Ł3,000 with them.
I went to take them to court, but when my solicitors done a business check on them, they have no assets as such, everything is rented so all a bailiff could do is take there petty cash tin.
Expensive lesson learnt.... your better off having your shell soda blasted and at half the price.
I'll post some pics up of it later on.

That's worrying I work for a restoration company and we use them on to dip the shells only. mind you there very rusty in the first place. We then blast them once repairs a re done then there epoxy primed.

I will let my boss know but tbh our painters don't like them being dipped due to the acid issues as you have said.

There's another company that's just started maybe they are better.??

This is the day that I picked it up from SPL

There was damage to the rear panel that wasn't there when I dropped it off!

Back at my mates workshop where it was stored for 4 months before being started.

I also had brand new panels dipped to match the shell that was rust free before they were dipped that ended up rusting after!.

Start of rust after being stored 4 months in a heated workshop.

The photos don't really do it justice but under the ecoat is rust breaking through.

I'll find the other pics that was taken at Reynolds Parkhurst Engineers when it went for its report. As them photos are bad.

I know what you mean, my first car was a b reg black 2.8i special, the insurance on it back then in 1990 was Ł1500 3PFT
It nearly bankrupt me, but it sure was worth it!

No updates at the moment as I've put it on hold for a couple of months as I know I'm not going to get this finished for show season this year.
I did just buy a 4.0 explorer that I've got to strip so I can send the crank and my block away to get stroked.
Last year I bought another Tickford Capri, which needed a few things doing to it as it had been left in a garage for over 8 years. So I've switched to this as this wont take long to do and also I can work out things for the xpack engine.
The Tickford has just been moved up to the paintshop to have a full respray.
While she's up there I'm going to recommission the engine and turbo and injection system as she was running a tad lumpy!
She's not that bad condition under the bonnet, Capri's usually rust out around the strut tops but it's solid.
