Default my moonstone saph cosworth resto (G66 CJM) ..............small update 17/04/13

Ok so i thought id start logging my restoration.

here is how i bought the car.....

it has belonged to a few guys on here. some pics I've gathered from previous owners..........

and was quite clean anyway, so a good base to start.

after trying to get as much info as i could on the car, i started to wonder if the engine had been changed out for a standard item, as it seemed it was stripped of the good bits

The car remained at my Dads house in the midlands for 4 months while i found a house with a garage up north.
in this time a bought all new engine sensors, tca's, dizzy cap, plugs, so when i picked the car up it would survive the 170 mile trip up north, as i didn't know much about this car,

so after fitting all the new bits, and sorting the cluch peddle out as it wouldnt pull up. ( god its heavy, now have the left leg of Arnie) i set off up north at a steady 70 mph, with a few moments of it cutting out and then starting again all on its own,(suspect loose sensor plug on err? something lol)

anyway finally get it home and in the garage......

i decided to strip out a load of old alarm wire ,as under the dash looked like a spiders web (the car had 2 alarms, one didn't work).... and that progressed into taking all the interior out to look for the dreaded rust........

the old alarm......

it didnt look to bad at all .........

but after digging a bit deeper and clearing away the old rust it looks like this......

now i dont know wether to weld in small bits or cut it out and weld a bigger plate on, what you think?? answers on a post card.

after getting bored of the inside, i turned my attention to the engine bay to see whats what, and started to strip it to bits........

as i was expecting a std engine so to my surprise i found this............

wire rung and valve cut outs.

now the engine didn't smoke rattle or knock,

but do i risk using it again or get it rebuilt, i dont know how long ago it was rebuilt.
maybe just send it somewhere to have the seals done and a check over.

the old owner said it had a stage1 NMS head, but i havent taken of the exhaust manifold off yet, so fingers crossed.

anyway thats all for now...... will update when i can

small update,
not done much really just stripping the car some more. dash is out, and front end stripped, bulkhead panel out.

im starting to run out of room

cant get the engine out till im back off my hol's, which is pissin me off as I'm getting short on things to take off the car, as i need it rolling to push it in and out the garage, as i dont want it outside while im away.
