Default MFI TO EFI Conversion...HELP WITH WIREING PLEASE.

Hi Guys,

Just need some advise and some help please.

I've just started to convert my MK4 Escort RST from MFI to EFI setup. I have all the parts i need including a custom made engine loom. I need to find out what's the best, clean and easiest way of removing my old MFI engine loom. It seem's that on my model car there is no separating connector for removing the MFI engine loom from the rest of the car's loom which is a bit of a pain in the arse! so what me and my mate think is the best way is to remove the whole loom from the car and me purchasing an mk4 Escort XR3i EFI loom and swapping it with the old loom so that i have no old engine loom stashed away somewhere in the engine bay. What i am asking is if anybody know's of another way to do this before i start tearing my car interior out which i'd rather not do as its gonna be a dash out jobby, Is there a way to cut out the MFI engine loom without effecting the rest of the existing loom in the car?

Hope this make sense lol. Any help would be great.

Cheers

best way to do it is run an efi 3i loom like you say as the mfi system is hardwired

thats what im currently doing, that way all you have to do is tap into the fuel pump wiring that runs down the drivers side

Very sound advice that. Full EFi loom for the front of the car, splice it in to the rear section of the loom. That's what I did:

Thanks for your help chaps, I'll get a xr3i loom sorted out then. Just to double check then if i remove the whole mfi loom from my car and replace it with the efi loom up to the fuse box in the engine bay, i can then fit my custom made engine loom without any old ugly wiring in the way?

P.S...Ive got the pedal and cable sorted thanks.

Cheers

with the efi loom you wont need a seperate engine loom as they are all together again, what ecu are you using?

thats where the factory 3i ecu sits

sounds like you have a conversion loom to convert a current mfi loom to efi management, that will leave a load of loom in your bay that you didnt want

if you fit a full efi loom you dont need the braided loom you already have, just plug your ecu and map sensor in and away you go, like said you just need to tap into the rear wiring loom for the fuel pump live

also you need to change 1 wire on the edis modue so that your rev counter doesnt read half what it should

can you post a pic of the braided loom you already have?

Yes that sounds right to me then bud. Is there anyway that i can cut away any of the MFI engine loom and block connector it off and tidy it out the way? Because its cost me a few quid this new loom ive bought so it would make sense to use it really. Like u say if i'm gonna replace it all with efi loom there's no need to use this new one ive got is there? I just don't want to end up with a load of old shitty wiring all over the place as its off in for an engine bay paint while ive got it in bits too so i want it to look nice and tidy.

Thanks for time mate

Cut the MFi engine loom out. Then use the 12v feed and earth and build this.

As above, you don't needto change the loom, its a waste of time.
Unplug your two ecus behind the heaterbox andjust remove that wiring, if you cut all the tape off you'll see what to remove.
It'll be from the ecus to the fuse box, and then disconnect everything from the metering unit and do the same. You can remove this lot all round to the fuse box or for ease, just up to the passenger headlamp and leave the dead wires in, leaving the factory tape on there so looking neater.
Then use the fiesta engine loom, a live, earth and if you change your pink relay by the pedals to a normal relay, you can just wire pin 5 to ignition live also saving all the extra wiring ( if you don't mind the fuel pump running all the time the ignition is on that is )
