Mk 1 Capri Restoration
Welcome to my thread for my Mk 1 Capri Restoration
Just picked her up today and shes not in bad shape...
New floor, wings and cills but solid everywhere else!
Plans are to fit 2.8 suspension and brakes but fit her with a 12v 2.9 cologne on injection so a classic you can use everyday!
Diamond white with gold decals is the current plan but things change daily as im sure you can relate to!!
Pics to follow...

Ok so a weekend has passed and things may have changed...
Currently the car is to be painted the same colour (Torney Gold) and fit an Essex V6. Going for a standard back to 1972 approach.
Had a go at removing the paint on the bonnet as the previous paint job went terribly wrong, after a few coats of nitromors i found about 8 coats of paint but no metal so ill be pulling the d.a and 40 grit out i believe!
Pulled the front sus off and was sold as bilstein front legs but looking at them im thinking there possibly of an "RS" model of some sort. Anyone know exactly the way to tell?
Seen a essex and gearbox from a transit but not sure what gearbox it be, any ideas??

Apologies for lack of updates but currently getting items together but i start chopping her up. Engine, 2.8 x-member, power steering rack and a nice throaty exhaust have been purchased and collected so hoping to get a good couple of solid days on her end of this week and start on the bodywork.
Engine is from a transit so need a 38dgas and normal sump as well as a box but on inspection engine looks a real beauty!!!

ok sorry for the lack of updates but car didnt see alot of work until about a month ago and since then the car is rolling and partly painted. So shes just about ready for the full spray.
Hopefully picking up a 5 speed box tomorrow and stripped new engine as last one was fooked, full of crud, and fitted steel timing gear and fast cam. All new front sus and discs, looking for calipers. rear exle all fitted and next step once painted is to get the brake lines and fuel lines on and mock up engine so i can fabricate the rad position....

cheers fellas, got another week of work so hopefully get it to bodyshop on weds. hunting down parts is a bit of a chore and now there is kind of a finishing line looking at next project...mk3 capri cosworth turbo?
As for the mk 1, hoping the cam and manifolds will give her a little more grunt and looking forward to driving her!

I'd prefer to be able to afford a full blown Ric Wood Race Engine!
Talking of engines...went and picked up a 5 speed box today, bolted it to the engine and before i left for home thought id best het it in so it all lined up and slithered straight in! Hoping to have it fired up by Sunday...Thats if the head gaskets come in time!!
delaying bodyshop until fully built now!

Apologies to everyone, havent updated for a long time. Work has been sporadic but the car is now 95% complete and even had her running up and down today!
Got lots more pics and only odd jobs to complete, im hoping by the end of next week to have the carpet fitted and boot and bonnet sprayed so may even sneak an MOT test in!
really impressed with how she drives, the more modern 2.8i suspension/brakes her a really nice ride and the engine is a torque monster, the fast cam and tubular manifolds unleasing a little more meaning she was pulling me round in 2nd gear with no throttle!
Having lots of thoughts with what to do with her but been bitten by the building bug and my current state is to move her on onto the next project or p/x her with someones current project...etc Cant stop thinking about sierra's and Fiest RST's at the moment, no idea why but as im sure with most of you different plans are occuring hourly haha
A mk3 capri with a YB would be nice!!??
anyway, here are a few more pics!

Hi guys, a few pics of the capri from yesterday. Got the MOT (Flew threw) got her taxed and insured and off i went. Pouring rain and 5pm traffic dampened the thrills but she performed excellently with no worries at all!
Absoloutely no traction in the wet which made me laugh and from driving a 61 plate focus as a daily you have to remind yourself of how different cars of these age feel but every blip of the throttle makes you
Got to paint the boot and bonnet but hoping for a proper blast on some roads over the weekend!
Brief spec is 1972 Capri 1.6 - Fully restored shell with new front wings (RS3100), rear wings, floors and cills. 3L Essex with fast road cam and steel timing gear, 5 Speed Type 9 'box, 2.8 injection front and rear suspension and brakes including atlas Axle
Old vs new...quite amazing with the size difference! Capper is proper low!
